Mike, is it possible that rotivators are no better now than when I last used one several years ago as I am still knackered from the experience as it was worse than useless apart from on the softest of soil. If that is so it may be that tractor drawn plant is more commonly used here due to the rock filled terrain. My neighbour pays 30 TL to a gardener and heavy jobs man for a 5 hour stint. Hope somebody can help you.

A Rotavator will only work on soft ground. If the ground is hard, as I suspect in Cyprus, it will just bounce about on the surface and shake all your bits.

Bear 1. Worse than that, it led to a hernia, resulting in a strapmydicktome operation and I now call rotavators, rotivators !

Wrong time of year for a rotavator! Do not even attempt it until after the first rains have soaked into the ground or you will be asking for arm ache, wrist damage, back damage, dust pollution and ground that will just turn to dust when the rains come. If you rotavate now and are successful in turning over to a depth of 20CM then that ground will be like mud and dust at the first rain, a lot of it will wash away and all your good word will come to nothing. Trust me, I have been doing this for the past three years - just sit in the shade, have a beer and wait for the rain. Then chase a rotavator and do a good job in the damp soil.
