Surely a restaurant advert once a week is sufficient. They could append updates to their weekly advert. If every restaurant is allowed 7 threads a week that's an awful lot. Let's see - number of restaurants 100's x 365 = shed-loads!

What do the team think?

Do you find wading through the adverts, often not explicitly marked as such just like this thread , an interesting process?

OK it's not reached these proportions just yet but it is increasing exponentially me thinks.

I see where you are coming from, Groucho and sympathise. But where do you draw the line? There are entertainers on here who "advertise" all the time. Other businesses, too. In fact, if you lost the self-promotion or promotion on behalf of others, there probably wouldn't be that many threads at all

New band this

I'm performing this

Great service from

Lovely food at

This is our menu today

We're having a kleftico night on

New menu at

The front page at the moment includes: this Friday another great food night at Guidos; enjoyed disco at Liaisons; Snakes, plonkers and top night at Soyz; for information to all, not advertising but; Taj Mahal reopening; model casting; Bar 8.8 a very good place to eat; live music with Danny Fisher as Elvis; northern lights singing; live music at Taner's bar; congo faith healers...I'm bored, but the picture is there.

Yeah, it's tough - most of them should be under the events calendar I guess.

But are people really bothered by it? I tend to skip them, but then I'm an infrequent poster

On a serious note, to be fair some of the restaurants / bars who advertise on here are only trying to drum up some business. I suppose this can be classed as their 'busy' period and obviously they want to 'make hay while the sun shines'.

Yes but do they need more threads? Can't they have one for {Name of Restaurant} Week {date} to {date} and then add items as they occur... it would bring their advert back to the top.

They then might have one thread with seven posts... (less than this thread now). Neat and tidy. All the relevant info in one place.
