To the Karpaz, I would give yourself 3 1/2 hours from Karsiyaka.

Be prepared the road is unbelievably bad for a long stretch leading into Dirkarpaz. We weren't even sure where we were going when we were on it as there is major construction of the new road. I am here at Villa Carparis at the moment and are dreading going back on it tomorrow. The hotel is lovely and have stayed here before. Warm welcome and the rooms are lovely and the manager is a lovely guy.

The Arch Houses, The Balci Plage and the Malibou have all been used and recommended by friends.

ive just come back from the karpaz, we stayed at Balci, its was really nice we got the upstairs part that has two bedrooms and a lounge and kitchen, it is fully equipped with kitchen stuff....

the food is really good, but a bit pricey.

we then drove out to golden bay and rented a hut for 100tl for the day, it was well worth it as there was 6 of us with young children, as the admission to this part was 10tl we didnt need to pay because we had the hut. they only charge you if you use their umbrella and sun beds.

Balci cost about 200 tl.

it took us from Girne about 2.5 hours from the costal road (if you drive like my dad, it takes only on hour!), but if you go up to ercan and take the isklele turning it would be easier.

We stayed at Arch Houses a few weeks ago, having been there several times, lovely place and Manolyam restaurant next door extremely good value and Sukru and his wife are really great "mine hosts" - don't order a meze as that comes for free anyway before your meal. The cost at the Arches was 90 lira which included breakfasts for the two of us which we thought was excellent value. As there were eight of us we decided to hire an eight seater at £30 a day which was very comfy and meant we were all together whilst travelling.

Just been given a brochure for a new hotel near Iskeke that looks lovely. A friend stayed there at the weekend and highly recommends it for price and quality.

Celebi Garden hotel...........Mehmetcik - Iskele 0392 375 55 50

They paid 60tl per person for bed breakfast and evening meal.

Balci Plaza don't have air con but they do have ceiling fans. Have a look at their website and you will get some idea of what the place looks like and their up to date prices.

I disagree with eastenders - we went as a party of 14 in June and our guests were amazed as to how reasonable the bill was. We stayed for 1 night, evening meal and plenty of booze [special birthday celebration] and cooked breakfast next day. Hasan is the perfect 'mine' host, he has his own beach and in front of the apartments there is a large lawned area that is ideal for children to play on.

In 8 years we have stayed many, many times and we have never been disappointed.

Balci Plaza have air con now since the 5th August. The food is good the rooms are basic but ok. The beach was nice but trying to get into the sea was difficult as very rocky and not good for children really. I think it is now 120tl per room & b&b (full english) since the air con was fitted. The malibo looked nice and a nice safe beach. They were charging 150tl but that included b&b and an evening meal.

I looked at the hotel yesterday on the way back, it was OK but nothing special that would make me want to go there. Nice setting but in the middle of nowhere

Scarlets : "Nice setting but in the middle of nowhere"

Isn't that why we go to the karpaz for the peace and tranquility and away from the normal routine.
