Hi,

One of our staff is mad keen on body building and uses a protein drink before and after his workouts, it is much cheaper to buy in the UK (don't worry it is all natural, no steroids involved!!) and he has asked if anyone is coming soon could they bring some for him.

I have the website links if anyone can help.

Thanks

As I have said here before;

1. Did you pack this bag yourself?

2. Have you been asked to carry something by someone else?

Answer no to 1 and yes to 2 and you will get a lot of bother.

Answer yes to 1 and no to 2 - get yourself a criminal record. Unless of course the aircraft blows up midair.

The idea was to get the protein drink delivered to the persons house direct from the website, they will be more than welcome to take it out of the original packing and have a damm good look, inside and out, that way they can see exactly what they are carrying, therefore they will be packing their suitcase themselves, knowing what is in there.

We would never expect anyone to pick up a 'brown paper parcel' and put it in their luggage!!

What about the £8 per kilo the airline will charge?

That would be for someone who already has used their luggage allowance, we were assuming (maybe stupidly!!) that the person who volunteered for the job would be travelling light and therefore willing to bring our 3 kilos. I had no idea when I asked this question that it would upset people.

Perhaps if the person bringing the stuff over could actually order it and have it delivered to them and that would remove all the doubts. Trouble is, now that CTA has gone the 25kg limit seems to be 20kg for most airlines

I cannot believe that someone would not be able to but these kind of protein drinks in either TRNC or RoC.

With Carrefour in the South selling everything from a needle to an anchor surely a check there would be worth a try.

Is it worth getting someone arrested or at best put on a permanent 'no fly' list just because someone who is "mad keen" on body building cannot be bothered to shop?

Tiga Trading,

I do not think for one minute you are upsetting people, what has been written to you is quite true, and to be honest, getting up tight has made me a bit cautious.

hmmm, dont you just love this forum!

ask a little favour or question and get kicked in the bollox for asking.

ohhhh you cant trust them body building internet sites, might spike your order with after glow

Best thing to do is get it posted with world wide parcel express into the south to a PObox number there,no duties no nothing, its a EU country,or there will be some 1 here who knows some 1 over there with a address.

I have carried protein supplements on flights to Qatar in the middle east (really strict) and to TRNC, you can buy these products off the shelf in Argos, Tesco Extra, Holland and Barratt and many online stores, all above board. They are a lot more expensive in TRNC as I have bought them there as well. OK bringing them in but don't try to bring them out.... SBA Police do not like it...I know. Anyway, I'll be coming in October and will kindly bring if I have the room and if it is not too late.

In these circumstances I think it would be extremely irresponsible for anyone to consider bringing a package through for someone else. The circumstances could be 100% genuine, however to take that risk.........

I would willingly have brought it if I had room. People are getting a bit paranoid here, if you can see it before it's packed and it's come from a reputable outlet, what the hell is the problem?

The problem is that drug dealers and importers are extremely ingenious at thinking of ways to conceal substances in genuine looking products. I am not saying for one moment that this is the case here however I would never subject myself to that unknown risk. Good luck to anyone that is happy.

tiga are known to a lot of ex-pats , they are asking on a open forum , not in a toilet in Bogotá for christ sake,

they go out of there way to help the ex-pats with information wherever poss, i shake my head in disbelief and cant wait till the cyprus problem is sorted, only to encourage some proper people , ' not the more than my job worth ' that are currently infesting the island. dont need to apologise to the normal peeps as you know what i mean and if you don't you are in the jobs worth camp.

AJ see what you mean about ex-pats lol

I shake my head in disbelief at some of the venemous replies made on this forum to persons who offer a different opinion. We are all different, have different views and beliefs, why can't this be accepted without people being abusive to someone who may beg to differ?

So why can't you accept some people may be happy to bring a parcel over and some would be cautious if they don't know the person involved. You don't knoww the first thing about me yet are quite happy to be personally abusive. Is there any need?

Exactly I don't know Tiga, and a I dare say quite a few others would not, it is not without risk to bring a package oversea for someone not knowing them. Do you not think people have ended up being caught for carrying packages for people? Am I wrong for pointing out the potential risks for doing so?

Just because you don't agrree with my point of view and are happy to bring out packages for other people, does that give you the right to be personally insulting without knowing the person

i wasn't referring to you or your remark about midnight express, only as a general term as in drug running,

as i said you dont want to take the parcel fine, why go into dramas about it, get a life instead of spoiling everybody else's, as i said you dont want to take it fine why put everybody off job-worth

As you say you do not know tiga trading, yet you are happy to cast aspersions that they 'could' be asking someone to bring contraband....I dont know why you felt it necessary to enter this topic other than to be the harbinger of doom eminating from a simple and innocent request.

I am not casting aspersions about anyone, if you read the posts you will see 'I am not saying for one moment that this is the case' & 'The circumstances could be 100% genuine' I am providing a general opinion.

I will ask you specifically, would you be entirely happy to bring a package out for someone you didn't know?

Just another thread that has turned into a slanging match, when all you have to do is if you feel you cant or wont be able to assist is not reply and leave the thread to those that maybe wish to assist.

Cooper...you have a point , but I also feel that anyone pointing out the potential pitfalls of assisting someone in this way , particularly someone you don't know , also has a valid contribution to make and should not be castigated for offering an opinion and advice.

No it hasn't turned into a slanging match, I for one have not engaged in any slanging, this has come from one direction only, all because I offered my opinion. If I don't agree with someones opinion I don't get abusive to them, I accept it's their viewpoint which differs from mine and move on.

Unbelievable!

In all the time i've 'lurked' on this forum I've never come across such a stupid request. As someone said further up the thread, go see 'midnight express'.

The truth is, to do this, you would have to lie at airport security. Personally, without casting any unfounded suspicion on the original poster, I have no intention of placing myself in any situation where I potentially face many many years in prison, even if it's only a 1 in a million chance.

If your pal can't body-build naturally, refer him (or her) to a sports psychologist and refer the idea of someone 'carrying' 3kg of chemicals to the nearest police station!

I have checked in protein powder in gallon sized zip locked bags through Las Vegas, Frankfurt, Pristina and Amman and have never been questioned or detained. It's not a big deal.

Tony, I don't have plans to travel anytime soon, but I will check in with you next time to see if your buddy needs "some stuff, man" to get his protein fix.

Msg 48, you don't have to lie at security as you put it. If whoever agrees to bring it makes the purchase themselves from a reputable source..as i said in my previous posts, available at Argos, Tescos, Holland and Barratt and many online stores, i'm pretty sure the food trading standards would not allow these items to be sold if they were illegal. The statement you then make that you packed the bag yourself and know the contents is true. As Msg 51, i too have carried these items to many areas throughout the world and the only time i've been refused to carry them over a border is from TRNC to the south side as the SBA state, to bring medication (as they call it) is illigal without a prescription.

I think Tiga's request has been answered. someone has agreed to bring the 'stuff' over. Therefore I see no further use for this boring thread and think it should be closed. Personally I would not have commented on this or any other thread if I was not interested in offering to help.
