I see we are starting to get the football and sport related posts again, sorry guys but I cannot stand sport, can we have a sport section please. I am sure I will be shot down in flames over this post, but it's just my opinion, not everyone likes sport. James

Although not linked to NC, the sports threads are of interest to some members and get many views & comments. Not all the posts can be of interest to all members ....but as long as clearly titled you shouldnt find yourself reading threads that are not of interest ..... I aviod all Indian restaurant & dog rehoming threads because they do not interest me..... just my opinion of course..

James - like you, I have no interest in football either (I get enough of that at home). But, to be fair, football threads are usually (or should be) preceded with the word "Football" and thus enables you to avoid them, if you so wish. Jean

PS Sorry; likewise "Formula 1" - they again should be preceded with this term (and I find they usually are). Regards. Jean

I like reading jokes ... and also like reading news about sports (particularly football) ... and I also like to read about current affairs in the UK. However ... ... as Dutch Crusader writes in msg 8 on the thread "Joke : Three ladies in Sauna" - "Bill, ... not one of your jokes has anything to do with Cyprus" ... and as AlsancakJack writes in msg 3 on the thread "Dr Kelly exterminated by agents; true or false" - "Not quite sure what all of this has to do with the TRNC." ... and, as implied here by James, virtually all the sports' threads on this forum have no connection with Cyprus. Yes, as Jeannie suggests, we can choose not to read the threads. However, all these non-Cyprus-related threads are pushing more relevant ones further down the page. On most forums (eg. the one used in the south) there are separate sections for sports, jokes, etc . I am aware this would mean a costly redesigning of the web-site, however it would solve these problems ...

Mess 1 if you dont like a topic dont open it simple!!!!! I have no interest in Dogs or cats so I do not open the post.......but do not winge about it. On the subject of football it has a massive following and creates a lot of interest in NC and the matches are shown live in a lot of bars......so for me football posts are ok!!!! and there is extra interest as the Premiership kicks off tomorow

A question for members who do not wish to read the sports posts: When buying newspapers, or reading an on-line newspaper, or when colleagues are discussing sport, what do you do? Let me guess: You don't look at the sports pages; avoid colleagues when they're discussing sport, are there any more? So, now you have your answer! Just sit back and realise how lucky you are. You don't spend £50 plus per month to have Sky Sports/visit local bars to watch sport, and all that time we waste, never mind posting our inane thoughts here. Anyone for stamp collecting, bird watching, train timetables? I do agree with having different sections and pushing posts further down the list, or even onto the second page.

| Having used other forums I have to say I am not really a big fan of having to enter a separate section for sports, another one for jokes, another one for ... because it felt like I was being locked away in one room of that forum - for me, being able to see ALL the threads in one section makes me feel as though I am part of the whole forum community. So yes, I am happy with the current format of our forum and like Texas and Jeannie, I am content just to pick and choose the threads I click on. HOWEVER, if these joke threads, sports' threads, UK current affairs' threads push a thread like "O negative blood needed in Girne" on to the second page, then maybe we ought to consider doing smthg about it :-( Don't get me wrong guys - I like the football threads, I like (most of the) jokes and I want to keep up-to-date with what's happening in the UK but ... you get my point. | Think of the forum as a pub. A pub is where people socialise, get together and form bonds. The patrons don't own the pub but they can at least say 'it is my sanctuary'. This the place where one can let of steam, get serious, have a little bit of banter or just go with the flow. In the pub people mingle in small groups. Each group might have its favourite subject that it often talks about, and they may move through several different topics during the evening. Often they will just gossip. At times their focus might be drawn to a hot topic in the news, This could be about a incident that could have happened at home or abroad. Now if you regulated the type of conversations people had in the pub then the place would become very stagnant and stale, in fact probably boring and at times a deadly silence might fall over the establishment. Let the forum be alive with many topics as you would a pub. For many when we say we are going to the local, we mean we are going to Cyprus44. |

Nice analogy ilovecyprus ... and yes I like the atmosphere of our pub ... but what about the issue of threads, more relevant to Cyprus, slipping down to the second page ?
