| A bit from the south but they know no borders THE HEALTH Ministry is monitoring developments in relation to West Nile Virus (WNV) and are on the alert to confront any incidence of the disease, Minister Christo Patsalides said. Commenting on the appearance of the virus in neighbouring countries, Patsalides said his Ministry had given all necessary instructions to the hospitals while efforts were being intensified to eliminate mosquitos, which are mainly responsible for transmission of the virus to humans. It cannot be transmitted between humans. “It is preferable to be ready and to take preventative measures than have to tackle actual cases”, Patsalides said. Four out of five people who are infected with the virus never display any symptoms, while about 20 per cent of the remaining one fifth develop mild symptoms such as fever, headache, weakness, pain http://www.cyprus-mail.com/cyprus/health-services-lookout-west-nile-virus/20100813 |
