| "PM's warm welcome" During the trip, the premier listened to the views and problems of the residents of the village-inhabited by Maronites- and promised to take the neccessary steps to eliminate them!!! (Lets hope He was referring to their problems!) |

| Korucam is a fascinating village and well worth a visit - the church there is magnificent. Maronites are a form of Catholics (although their priests can marry). When Turkey invaded in 1974, the pope contacted the Turkish governmnent and asked them to protect the Maronite villages which Turkey duly did. Until only a few years ago you could not get to these villages without going through an army checkpoint but now the Maronites have started to return and the villages are occupied again, the checkpoints have been removed. |
