I got two phones unlocked in Girne by two different shops . You got to shop around though. The first one quoted me 140 lira for an i-phone .Further down the road it cost me 40 lira !! Done in 20 minutes .

Presume you've had a look to see if your phone can be unlocked for free. If not look here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/unlock-mobile-phone

what type of phone is it, most can be done yourself if you have the right cable (normally comes with the phone) and the needed software downloaded from the net.

No not really, I went in there after a friend suggested me going there and didn't even know that she would not be taking any money for it. When she unlocked it I asked her how much i needed to pay and she told me that they don't take money for it.

Oceana, Didn't realise the reply was for me either.... but moving on. If you give the make and model number of your phone I'm happy to do a search to see if you can unlock it for free, and if not if an unlock code can be purchased online. If you want to do it yourself thenlLook at the link I gave you, about halfway is the unlocking bit.

And I didn't realise that Proger1's reply was for me. Must be because of the heat . Thanks Greenman for the information and sorry Proger1.

I got mine done a year and a half ago but i may not be remembering correct. it was either my phone that got blocked or it was my sim card.

Oceana , Can we go back to the beginning?

If you buy a phone from a service provider (O2, Vodaphone, Turkcell) then it will usually be sim locked. This means that you can only use your provider's sim card - so if you bought it from O2 then you may only be able to use an O2 sim card.

To get round this you can get your phone unlocked so that any sim card can be used.

For this you need an unlock code. This can be free for some phones or you may have to pay either over the internet or at a phone shop.

What is puzzling me is that you say you've had it unlocked, or is this another phone you are now using?

I see what you mean Greenman. Mine was totally different I had no problems about using different sim cards on my phone which is and was back then a Nokia 6300. My problem back then; my phone or sim card being blocked because i had forgotten my pin or password and thats how I ended up going Turkcell. I think there was a misunderstanding.

Ok. So is you current problem that you have either forgotten your phone pin code? If so have you tried the 3 or so times then your sim card will be locked and you now need to contact your sim card provider and ask for a PUK code.

On the O2 site they have some advice for various O2 phones: http://www.o2.co.uk/apps/getPUK/welcome

Yep, that's exactly what happened. After the third attempt my sim card was blocked. This happened about a year and a half ago. I don't have any problems now with my phone or sim card. If i have any other similar problems in the future then I'll be using the website you have posted;)

OK. Thoroughly confused now as to why you posted the question in the first place, but glad you seem happy with the results.

Message 3 ...Shangrila. As you come down the hill in town coming from the car park take the first turning right and it was the first phone shop on the left , but go to two or three others down the road and get a price . I bet they differ a lot . Good luck
