Started to paint my internal walls today along with plaster coving. Good quality white matt applied. Now started to crack in many places and now looks a mess which is now peeling off. anyone any ideas what has gone wrong?. Walls and ceiling+coving were dry and sanded down before painting. Anyone able to help? any ideas or preferably someone able to come and rectify/finish off for me as i am at a loss.

If you have not done so already then you will need to strip back to the plaster and apply sealant before re-painting. AJ

Agree with message 2 - the walls do have to be sealed before applying paint.

If you're still talking to your Builder... ...ask him what make and type of paint they used originally. Then ask the main agent for that paint what you need to do to paint over it, and what to use. I'm wondering if the stuff that you used might be incompatible with what's already on the walls.

Sounds like the old surface isn't clean - is it in a cooking area or somewhere where there has been a lot of smoking? If so, clean off with Sugar Soap Alternatively it good be the paint is too thick for the current temperature - thin with 10-15% water - try a test area 1st If it's bare plaster, you need to do a wash coat 1st, 50% paint, 50% water (cheaper than sealer) I doubt it's an incompatible paint, assuming the original was an emulsion.

Never realised until you said but now aware that the areas that have peeled away were put on with a brush and not a roller, so the too thick theory could be the one. if i then let it completely dry out over the weekend and scrape/peel it off do i then have to use a filler to get back to the same level again (thickness of missing paint, or will it look ok if i paint over with a thinner mix?. anyone fancy a small annoying job out there.?

having expierienced 8 years of home care I can say i always each season have a degree of outside and inside cracking and peeling - just part of the weather systems here and the rubbish buillding processes! easy to remedy with a good painter. calm and stress free- just chill TRNC and you will be OK!
