Hi,

I just want to mention about new law, which is very crazy, New law about Taxis and Transfers.

will stop you to go Larnaca or Ercan airport to pick your friends!

Also their aim to stop travel agents to carry their customers with their 7 seat cars. So i think we have to do protest.

Taxi people want to stop everyone to go airport I think and charge fortune to people.

Report from this weeks Cyprus today, they have passed a law making it illegal to collect anyone from Ercan who isn't a blood relative(Yes really!!!), in essence the licensed taxi drivers are losing trade, so some 'expert' has foolhardily decided that you can no longer collect a hire car at the airport, that tour operators cannot collect holidaymakers by coach and that you have to prove that the person that you are collecting is a relative, short of roadside DNA tests, really can't see the police implementing this one.

Note this is for Ercan only as they have no power over Larnaca

The law states that drivers will face 50 penalty points and up to 130 ytl fine if found flouting the law.

Enforcement however has been put on hold because of complaints from the tourist industry.

Yes I too read about this.If its true (surely it can't be) it sounds so riduculous and will do an awful lot of damage. Holiday companies will start to fly into Larnaca and this could spell the death of CTA. Picking up hire cars from the airport is also an essential requirement for many villa rentals. Won't it hit the tourist trade the very thing its trying to promote? It is an idiotic law and all that was called for was the tightening up of existing laws accompanied with more surveillance and better controlled carparking. Lets hope its been interpreted wrongly.

If you were enterprising you could set up a blood test station so you coud take samples off people picking up and those wanting to depart to ensure they are blood relatives visa ve the new law.

Will messsers talat and denktash be collected by taxis from the vip lounge now or continue to be collected by goverment limos?

The gov is pretty good on property law though.

I think you may all have been wound up on this one!!! Somehow I dont think they would want to impose such a law - restricting holiday makers/family/friends from being transported from Ercan Airport - is someone having a laugh at our expense!!!

Unfortunately BHW,

as silly as it sounds it true. Initially I dismissed it as being nonsense but a literature search proved it to be accurate. I have read newspaper articles and gone as far as contacting people in the TRNC who regularly pick up from the airport and it is creating big problems. Seems to me that the TRNC need some no nonsense women to take control of things. Are you game?

perhaps messers talat and denktash should read all the reasons people using this forum have come up with about dropping tourist numbers and consider just how disastrous this law could be for TRNC

Tour operators will pull out of TRNC altogether, with advertising restrictions, escalating flight prices, and now a coach can't pick up the arrivals - how can they offer a 'package holiday'?

How about if some enterptising person sets up a bar just outside the airport, so everyone takes a taxi, then two miles down the road, meets their hirecar rep?
