Can anyone please advise - have only recently moved in so haven't had any bills as yet but have noticed that the electric meter seems to be running away with itself. Even with just a fridge and the pool on it seems to be using an excessive amount - 15 units during the day when no other electricity is on although I do not know the ration of the units showing on the meter : TKL! Have checked the timer on the pool pump and that is set for 6 1/2 hours a day which perhaps seems too much. Please can anyone tell me how long the pump needs to be on for in 24 hours and at what intervals. Many thanks

How big is your pool? Some people get away with 3 or 4 hours a day. Depends on the size of the pool and pump

Ours is set for 8 hours a day in the summer, usually only two of us using it and the water is crystal clear.

judyr i would always recomend a 10 x 5 pool should be run when in use in the summer for around 6 to 8 hours a day. People here will tell you they run there pool pump for alot less hours. The idea is to shift all your pool water through your filter every day,and depending on the size of your pump, unless you got a 3HP pump, then it would take 6 to 8 hours to move all your water through the filter.

Hi judyr, For chlorine pool... If the chemicals (chlorine/pH-) are right in the pool, 8 x 4 minimum 3 hours + on while swimming. On overflow if possible, water permitting longer for larger pools, + 50% for 10 x 5 Watermaid etc pools, see instructions, I run mine for 3 hours without any problems These times work for me. Scoop out any flies, leaves etc as required. Good luck. Navek

Thank you for your replies. On a slightly different note I did notice some while back some info about looking after your own pool - someone to teach you what to do and where to buy the products needed. There is currently a maintenance contract for someone to look after the pool but since we have moved out it makes sense to do it ourselves as we now have time on our hands. Can anyone recommend who to go to etc...

My hubby has done ours since we moved out. If you like you can e mail us and he will talk you through everything. Alternatively Vaughan at Octopus pools or David at Zerochlor should be able to help you.
