Just thought I'd share this information with others. Naci, the recently opened upholsterer in Alsancak is worth a try if you need anything recovered. He has just recovered a sofa and a rocking chair for me and made a cushion for the car. His work is very good and much better than anything I had done in the UK. Quite reasonable too, I thought, 400 tl to cover the sofa and that included the cost of the material. He is on the next block to Guido's opposite the golden lady statue.

Don't know him personally, but when I pick up from him next I will mention it to him. Email me at flynn536@hotmail.com with your name and details. You are right, he doesn't need bad publicity at this stage. I don't think he is good on the phone as his english is limited. Have you tried texting him. 05338 884 91 50 his name is Narca.

I would not normally do this but this man has well and truly trifled with me and my money! As you can see by the first mail on this subject, I gave this man a high accolade for some work he had done for me recovering a rocking chair.... Well then I gave him a 3 seater settee to re-cover for me. I was promised a 5 day turnabout wwhich I thought was OK. 6 weeks later, I still had not gotten the settee back. During this period I obviously made several trips to his shop to ask, complain, etc. Not until I threathened to call the Polis did I have the settee returned or rather 'dumped' in my front garden. http://www.flickr.com/photos/keithcaley/5054029649/#/photos/keithcaley/5054029649/lightbox/ The pictures tell the story. BEWARE OF THIS MAN! One picture is of a two seater identical to the three seater that I gave in to him the other is of the thre seater 'dumped' in my garden yesterday.

I have had a number of trampoline items repaired by Sercan, the upholsterer in Karaglanaglu. Reliable, and does what he says he will do. Always busy, which says a lot about the business. Well worth visiting if you need upholstery work doing.

Oh dear Oh dear Oh dear! (not really strong enough words but I'd get banned if I said what I really felt!) This man took away my 3 seater settee & 1 chair to recover a week last Friday. He promised to deliver them back to me last Saturday then pick up the 2 seater & other chair to be done this week. I paid him half the money up front (for materials) I waited in all last Saturday for the delivery of my lovely recovered furniture....guess what? yep, no show! Called at the shop on Sunday and my stuff was sitting outside on the forecourt, untouched. When I walked in the shop Naci ran upstairs leaving his wife (with virtually no english) to give the Cyprus 'shrug' and repeat 'Yarin, yarin' (tomorrow) Of course it didn't arrive Monday, or Tuesday or today - just been back down the shop and he says......wait for it.......'Yarin' The excuses have ranged from 'material in Lefkosia', 'material in Turkey', 'material in Girne', and today 'problem with baby - hospital' cont.

cont. from Msg 9 The story about the baby was a barefaced lie - their perfectly healthy baby girl has been in the shop with them each day! My husband arrives on Friday - I was hoping to surprise him with lovely, newly upholstered furniture - instead I have to explain why half of it is missing and his bank balance is down! Having read Alletops message & seen the photos I am scared to threaten him with the police in case my furniture gets similar treatment! Any suggestions? (legal means only - no bazookas!) Maggie

M&B Leave me out of this! I remember buying my 6 block sofa plus armchair, year 2000 from the secondhand shop near on opposite Credit West Bank in Girne which needed a total refit and the then owner drove me around Girne then Nicosia trying to find the right material & colour to my satisfaction. Ended up in 'Toros' which had what I wanted, he payed, revamped/cushioned etc. the whole thing, delivered within 5 days, slung in an antique chair for goodwill for the princely sum of £300 payed after completion & delivery! The then happy days in TRNC! Richard

Thanks for that Richard! makes me feel a whole lot better....NOT! Not had the best of summers here - crap, unreliable kitchen fitter, builder who should have been in the movies (cowboy) and now the upholsterer from hell - oh well, could be worse - could be in the cold, wet, windy UK! time for a little G & T I think! Cheers! Maggie

Ailitoo I'm a bit confused - in your first post you praise this guy & say he re upholstered a sofa, a rocking chair & made a cushion for your car. Yet in post No 6 (6th Oct - after I had let him take my furniture - partly on your recommendation) you say he had only done the rocking chair! So, did he actually do one sofa and then let you down with the 2nd one? Does anyone know what can be done about this man? is it worth contacting the Consumer Organisation? and, if so, does anyone have their contact details please? Maggie

Maggieand Bernie I am so sorry if you took my advise on this one. He did a very good job on the rocking chair, then I gave him the settee with a promise of a 5 day turnaround. Then it all went pearshaped! I should have kept my mouth shut in the first place. It's the last time I will either praise or criticise anyone on here. I am Taking the settee to Karaoglanoglu tomorrow to be repaired. Fingers crossed. If he has still got your furniture, I would strongly advise you to retrieve it and take it elsewhere. Sorry!

Ailletop Don't worry it wasn't your fault! I'd seen this guy open up and watched a few pieces of furniture come & go outside when visiting the bank machine. I'd already more or less decided to give him a try before I saw your post! He was very, very pushy but the wife seemed very nice and, like you I was completely sold on the quick turnaround. I'm quite sure he isn't going to deliver my stuff back today as promised but I am going to be busy now for next two & half weeks with husband home on leave & my son visiting. Not sure what to do next.......I suppose I should just shrug & say 'this is Cyprus' Maggie

Maggie You did see my pictures didn't you? I gave him a perfectly good settee to recover I just fancied a change. Look what I got back. If he delivers yours on time, you're a better man than I am Gunga Din! Good luck. Aille

well he can't deliver it on time as it's already 1 week late ha ha but now he's got it I think I'll try to persuade him to finish it - don't want it dumping like yours! If I were you I'd be tempted to go to the police - isn't that vandalism? and you have the before & after pictures & presumably a receipt? Good luck Maggie
