The receiver on the roof, is being exchanged to a motorola device...I've just had mine fitted, and the internet is even better than before.

The aim is to provide higher speeds and better quality of service.

RE msg 7, HNcomputers: (...) The aim is to provide higher speeds and better quality of service. (...)

=> Interesting. 1: Is Nethouse Networks finally delivering the speed they promise when you paid 3x as much as in Western Europe? 2: How is Nethouse Networks going to deliver higher speeds - when most routers in use cannot handle that?

This is the important bit:- Maximum data throughput (Mbit/s) 21Mbit/s for PtMP, 300 Mbit/s using PTP 600.

Current Mikrotik units (the most popular here) can't handle same speeds on the radio frequency and suffer from interference

RE msg 14, Washerman: In plain Dutch: is this Nethouse Networks talk about 'higher speeds' b*ll or serious (with existing hardware on the customer's side)?

The existing hardware on the customer side can handle the speed no problem - 1 Mbit, 2 Mbit, 4Mbit of constant throughput.

The problem is the hardware on the backbone infrastructure. If 20 customers that connect to a single base station generate 8Mbits of constant traffic, the existing Mikrotik radios struggle to handle it.

The new Motorola Canopy PtMP (Point to Multi-Point) access points can handle two and a half to three times the bandwidth. The PtP backbone links can handle far more bandwidth

They can handle more bandwidth without crashing. They are very reliable.

Problem with internet at the moment is extreme temperatures.

Thanks, Washerman. How do extreme temperatures influence my connection to the Internet?

The systems are running very hot, they reach max operating temperature and close down to avoid destruction. They cool down and restart, sometimes automatically, sometimes they have to be manually re-started

Distance to the access point, terrain, density of CPEs, Frequency, channel are all considerations. Wireless networking over long distances is still a developing technology, but eventually, it will take over - IMHO
