Hi We have friends coming to stay next week and while they are with us it's their wedding anniversary. Her husband want's me to book a special meal for us all as a surprise for his wife. Recommendations would be gratefully appreciated. When it was my birthday hubby booked for us at Midsummer restaurant and while the food and service were great there were only 4 of us dinning so it lacked atmosphere. My friends anniversary is on a Tuesday so it can be a quiet night and I would like them to see TRNC at it's best as it's their first visit. Please recommend where you think I should book. Many thanks Margaret

Kybele was always our special place but lately have had poor meals there, sad because it is so beautiful. Would not like your friends to be disappointed - why not have a drink there and eat across the road at The Bell Tower - our son and wife had a lovely meal there a couple of weeks ago..

Many thanks to all who responded. I'm grateful and will have a drive around and then decide which of all the recommendations I think would be best suited to their needs. Once again thanks for the quick response it's great to know that there is so much help out there. Margaret x

I would still say Kybele - tell them it is a special dinner and ask if they will give you a table on the new balcony area - on the edge overlooking down to Kyrenia. We were there a few weeks ago and the food was very good. Ennis (the manager) or Gengis (Head waiter) will look after you I am sure. It really is a very special and spectacular place. Also agree Abbey Bell Tower very good.

Hi Linda, go into the Turkish quarter by Club Zeus and 14 is near the mosque. First road on RHS if memory serves me well.

Efendi without a doubt - on Sunday or Thursdays they have a music night - but not the usual tawdry music night - very pleasant & chilled & the food is superb. If you're going on a Tuesday you will probably get away without booking. To be honest, we always had a favourite in Kybele but when we went in July and had a table overlooking Girne we had a 4 legged visitor - not a cat, but a rat ran right along the wall & up a tree. Also this time we found the waitresses surly. We had friends with us that had never been & it was a fine impression that they went away with! Efendi all the way! If you want to try somewhere outside of town ( and maybe on a different night ) you must go to Guido's in Alsancak. Great food in a great restaurant! Lilli & Guido are a lovely couple and will make sure you have a lovely evening.

I think Sele, halfway between 14 & Efendi is also a good option directly opposite the mosque.3 good options within 50 mtrs of each other, eat at 1 and have a drink at others.

Is the music back at Efendi now? It had stopped last week because of the permit rules. Friends went last Thursday no music and both the duck and the fish were off the menu. So they had a disappointing evening. I loved the menu and Tony Jones on a Thursday but I personally feel Number 14 is more intimate for a special occasion.
