We managed to take a 22 inch flat screen television last time we came over. I used polystyrene and bubble wrap. No damage at all.

If you put masking tape over the glass in a cross (X) the glass won't break, just an extra protection.

when you pass though customs do you stroll through fast, slow, make conversation with someone next to you and avoiding eye contact with the customs does your heart pound through that hallway, however if you were stopped would you have a reason for bringing a tv thro, what excuse would you give?

Considering some of the recent threads on here about who is doing things legally versus who isn't and who is paying taxes and who isn't do you think it is wise to talk about who has brought in a TV in a suitcase and how to get through customs.

Remember thata TV is one of the few things that you have to pay tax on when you ship it into the country in your tax free container so pretty much everyone who has imported TV's in a container or bought them in country has paid taxes.

I am not attacking anybody, I really don't care but that is probably because I bought all of my TV's in the Middle East and even with the shipping tax I probably paid about 40% less than UK prices and secondly, I am still earning so don't care about the money. Just thought I would mention that there are some who don't like to see this as they feel that they are being cheated and putting your name next to admittance might not be wise.

basheer, avoid eye contact, look inocent

Last time I came over bought a 22" flat screen TV, time before that was the kitchen sink!! (much amusement to be had at stansted baggage control)

This end they dont tend to question you - UK side they think it's funny that you have to bring over what they consider 'everyday' goods

Basheer - brought 2 x TVs to NC over the past few years. One via Larnaca and one via Ercan. Had no problems at either airport; actually, didn't give it a thought at the time that there was anything illegal about it
