Does anyone know anyone who moved to North Cyprus and fell in love (and married?) a Turkish-Cypriot lady/man...and now live happily in North Cyprus?

I wonder...

I know quite a few British and European ladies whom have met and married Turkish and Tc men, All seem to be very happy. A few even changed their religion.

Congratulations Tara, that is wonderful to hear. Great news. You are very lucky. I wish you all the best. So are you planning on bringing your children up in North Cyprus or the UK?

while I did not meet my wife here, I most definitely fell in love with a TC. We met halfway through uni in the states and have crossed continents together ever since, from the East Coast of the US to the UK to finally settling here. We just celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary in June. I haven't met a finer woman, and the rest of her family has been warm and welcoming throughout our time here.

Just a quick question. I am aware that North Cyprus is home to Turkish Cypriot people, so I am assuming the men/women who you have ended up with are Turkish Cypriot. I am aware that Turkish Cypriot people follow the Islamic faith. How important is religion to people in North Cyprus?

To Tara, mahdel and berilela, did you at all have to adopt their religion in order to get married?

That is an interesting question nikolas. I didnt have to addopt there religion no. In fact i wouldnt say my husband is religious. He is a cypriot born and bred here, but he eats pork. he doesnt go to mosque, in fact my father in law is the same. But then he has cousins and uncles who are very religous, go to mosque, and who are in fact now in the ramadan month fasting... (o dear my english and spelling has gone downhill)! =)

Oh ok, that is interesting. I appreciate what I'm about to ask is a bit crude, but I believe it is somewhat related.

I am aware that in Islamic culture, it is common practise for baby boys to be circumcised. In the UK, I believe it is not commonly carried out. Given (as far as I am aware) TRNC is prodominantly populated with people with Islamic heritage, is circumcision routinely performed in North Cyprus? Have you at all discussed with your husband, what his preference would be, if you are to have a baby boy?

Of course, as I already said, I fully appreciate that this is a rather personal question, so do say if I am out of line. It's just an interesting thought that's all...how mixing of culture and cultural practises work in such a pairing.

=) i was about to ask the same Rocker. yes they do circumstise there boys, either as a baby or around the age of 5/6. im having a baby girl so we wont have to worry about that, But if i where to be having a boy then i think my husband would want him to be circumstised. Not so much becouse of the religious aspect of it but becouse they think (and may be right) that this is cleaner and healthier.

I think you will find that most Turkish Cypriots arenot very religious at all compared to other Muslims

including Turkey. We tend to celebrate birthdays, thenew year and someeven celebrate christmas. Most Turkish Cypriots have a relaxed attitude towards foreign cultures.

They don't bring up there children as fundamental militants as some orthodox peoples do. I grew up in Australia where I was constantly bullied and threatened by greek cypriot children attending sunday schools and serbs.

Some prefer their children not to marry foreigners but most manage to get along with their daughter/son in law .
