Can anyone please advise us regarding when the next work permit amnisty is in northern cyprus. Back in 2004 I purchased a property in Kyriena which has gone horribly wrong and is now going through the high court with no end in sight. I feel that I have be conned out of £63,000 for a penthouse that should have been completed in 2006. I met my husband Murat there he worked at Oscar's Hotel and then moved to Shiraz Cafe. We married in 2006 and we now live in England and Murat now has a british passport but unfortunately they will not let him go back to northern cyprus because his last manager at Shiraz cafe in the town centre did not get his work permit for him. He kept assuring Murat that it was in the process but instead he tricked him and Murat then decided to go back to Adana in Turkey which is where he originally came from. When he left they told him he had to pay a fine of £7,400 which we cannot afford. We need to find out when the next amnisty is so we can go together. HELP!!!!!

I was going to ask the same question Andrew ! However, unfortunately for Jan I would imagine it is actually going the other way....and the TRNC are actually tightening up and becoming more strict with foreigners regarding permits and licences.

work permit amnisties in northern cyprus every 3 month, announced 3 month in advance... are you joking, msg 1 ??? there is an open understanding between the RoC,TR, TRNC and the EU that it is desirable that theapprox 10.000 turkish cypriots, who work on the greek side, find a job in the north again. at the moment i can not see "a chance" for Murat. anyway, Murat should have checked whether his boss is paying the social insurance and so on and could have demanded an "isci karti" which shows that he is registered. its his own mistake. sorry for that. msg 2,3,4: more or less yes. fine reductions....lump payments of approx 1500 TL....last one 2008.

Dave, I think the one last september was to do with over staying visas and an amnesty to get out without a huge fine or a chance to get legalised, It was when we were getting residencies sorted and I do remember the waiting time got longer for a while till they caught up with things. Just a vague recollection so not definate. Paul

There was a work and residency permit amnesty last year - the government said it would be the very last. Of course, Father Christmas brought me Claudia Schiffer in the stocking!

Surely this question should be being asked in Cyprus 44, but to someone who is in politics or government. Yes, O.K, no titters please! But seriously, only someone within politics (or maybe in the 'wrong' party) can give an answer to such an emotive question. Loads of sympathy for murat, and he seems to be a victim of a system that others manage to stay within. I know several Turks within the restaurant business who seem to get permits and have no problems. Maybe Jan and Murat should be talking to other Turks who know more of the system.
