If a tenant moves out can the landlord cancel the contract at the tax office so as not too pay the 10% tax. I was told that the tax has too be paid until the end of the agreement of the contract which is unfair if no rent is being paid. Just wondered if anyone has done this in the past.

dont know specifically ,but would think tax is paid on the amount received .....the income . a agrrement or short term tenancy presumably can be cancelled with notice?if its broken i would again think that leaves both parties with no income or no rent to pay . is it up with a estate agent ? may be elko will advise best kav

Steve, it is correct. Once the contract has been stamped in the tax office, the 10% tax has to paid for the duration of the contract. Tenants or no tenants. In the past I have deducted the future tax payments from the tenants deposit.
