We telephoned Pia Bella to ask how much it would cost a party of 7 to swim there. We were rather shocked to be told 20tl each. If we had gone we would have bought drinks and food but could not justify paying 140tl just to use the pool. We went to the Courtyard instead, where Mo always welcomes anyone to use his pool. He is quite happy for them to buy a drink or food. It was there loss.

I don't understand why hotels would not charge non-residents to use the pool facilities. If I booked into a hotel on holiday and found the pool area full of non-residents using the facilities that I have paid for, for free, i would be pretty hacked off. If the courtyard chooses to offer these facilities in the exchange for people buying drinks and food then good on them, but they don't have paying residents do they?

Totally agree Simhar why do people think they can "gate crash" hotels to use facilities when guests pay a premium for their privelage ! having said that "aysesdaddy" I understand your frustration but there are many really nice places to use pools and facilities more reasonable ! regards Barry

msg2 The courtyard do have residents. We were not intending to gate crash, actually lots of people told us to just walk in the back way, but we didn't. It just seemed quite alot of money to spend out.

I wonder what it costs to run a good hotel pool.

Must be changed days at Anastasia as 3 years ago friends of ours after having lunch and drinks went for a dip in the pool and when their bill was presented they were each charged 20lira for using the pool. Never went back, in fact I thought it was closed!

The reason we tried Pia Bella was that we don't drive and it was within walking distance from where we were staying. Anyway it didn't spoil our holiday, once again we had a fantastic time. We did use teachers pool a few times, which is by Bellapais junction, but mostly we got bus to Courtyard, which was 2tl each. Look forward to next year.

As I said in a previous post, best thing these establishments can do is charge people for the pool but credit against meals when taken. That way everyone should be happy except the freeloaders who dont buy anything and probably cocked it up for everyone else in the first place.

I know the costs of running a 10m x 5m pool so wouldnt expect to get it for free.
