With our winnings from Cratos casino we thought lets have a treat went to the roof barwe ordered crisy duck with plum sauce + 2 starters starters were delicious as was the Duck BUT the rice bit was served with was cold !! we told the waiter immediately no response! When the waiter came to clear the table my friend asked can you see anything wrong ??? yes he replied the rice was a problem AHH this guy is tuned in WE THOUGHT. When the bill came we noticed there was no adjustment OR gesture to take account of the cold rice we asked the waiter who went and spoke to the owners NO discount we were told NO apology either !!when we paid we did leave the very nice waiter a tip it was not his fault . On our way out my friend went to the gents situated next door to the kitchen !! he noticed the kitchen doors were wide open so told one of the chefs he liked his rice hot not stone cold at this the chef told him to GO AWAY AND WAVED A RATHER BIG KNIFE AT HIM BEFORE SLAMMING THE DOO

The Kithchen staff to the best of my knowledge speak no English, probably didn,t have a clue what was going on. Why not speak to the managment at the time. IE ask the waiter if you could speak to the manager or a senior member of staff. If any one tried to speak to my chef in the kitchen, he would shout abuse at you. I have been told on several occasions by my own chef to F. off. Cooking for several people, under pressure is hard work , and requires a lot of concentration. When I cook in our kithcen, my wife knows , just do what I ask, dont speak to me, don't watch me. In fact just go away, and I will tell when and what I want doing. I have cooked at several big parties, and people think they are helping when they all congregate in the kitchen and offer help, all it takes is one mistake to ruin a meal. I think you will find a chefs kitchen to be sacred ground. Just my thoughts.

the waiter did acknowledge there was a problem with the rice ( full credit to him) the owners could not be ****d to offer an apology free drink or slight discount . as for the prevarication on if rice should be hot cold or warm obviously when served with a hot dish ie hot duck with hot sauce it should be hot. kitchen staff knew enough english to shout go away. Stop moaning for gods sake, fcuk off back home yea yea yea sounds about right on here of late GENUINE grievances belittled . linnie loos yes please do try it please let us know how you get on. has any one else had the duck at this place if so what was you meal like please ?

Jillyjugs , why not have a word with the managment. I am sure they do not want to lose your custom and like you said the only real problem was the rice. I really would have liked to have tried the Chinese, But we have been busy this week, If they can offer a good Chinese at a good price then that would be a big bonus, We have not had a Chinese here (except when I cook) in over 3 years, because they are so expensive. I feel that if the Chinese is good and reasonable it would be a winner My be the Roof could extend the Chinese offer, and give more people chance to try it.

As the food ( rice ) was cold perhaps you should have done what wonky donky did at the punjab walk out and not pay for it including drinks ! The owners had the opertunity to oiffer a good will gesture and short sightedly did not do so, their loss.

I have never known rice to be served with crispy duck, only pancakes and the sauce with cucumber and spring onions.I hope Jilly gets the chance to get this matter put right. |

Thank you all for the comments and the support. Dear jillyjugs, As the management of the Roof Bar we appologise. With regards to the rice, the rice was placed on the dish with the duck at the same time straight from the pan. Then the waiter came and collected the food not later than 4 minutes after the food was ready, the temperature in the kitchen is higher than outside thats why, the rice couldn't have gone cold there. We are sure of this as this has happened when one of the managers was in the kitchen. There is usually a nice breeze on the Roof bar which could have caused your rice going cold. No matter what the reason is, we are very sorry for the experience you have had with the rice. In the winter we heat up the plates for the food not to go cold, but at this heat we thought it would be too much and the waiters would have trouble carrying hot plates upstairs.

With regards to the kitchen staff, they don't know much of English and if they were busy cooking and under pressure of getting alot of dishes ready, they easily might have said whatever they remembered first. We will have a word with the kitchen and warn them, we are sure that the chef who has acted disrespectfully to you would like to appologise from you personally as they are nice people and surely didn't mean to cause no harm. If you decide to give us a second chance, then please notify your waiter of who you are so he can get the chef to personally appologise from you. Once again we are very sorry for this. Thank you for the feed back and for the nice comment about the rest of the food and the service.

Dear all, If you do have any comments or complaints, then please do let your waiter know about it as soon as it happens so we can sort it out straight away. graycloud, what exactly didn't you like about the sandwich that makes you so upset? doeared, unfortunately with beer for 2,75 TL and other prices so low too, it is very hard to offer anyone 'good will gesture' if by this you mean discounts, as all the prices are discounted according to the market prices. We do want to provide the best service, food and drinks at the lowest price which makes most of our clients happy. Lilli, this is different duck, it's cooked in cherry sauce. We all love the duck that you are talking about but it turns out too expensive to add that only for one week as we would need special bamboo boxes for the pancakes. Once again thank you everyone for the feedback and the comments, we do try our best to improove, so are always open for all the suggestions and comments.

It would seem that the Roof Bar is having a few problems in the kitchen at the moment:-( At about 6 o'clock on Friday evening, I ordered pizza and my partner meat salad. Mine was fine but one of the pieces of steak in my partner's salad was clearly uncooked, if not raw. My partner left the uncooked piece of steak, but ate the rest. When the waiter came to collect our plates she (a Turkish Cypriot) commented on the piece of steak and he (the waiter) acknowledged it was indeed raw. Other than that, we made no objections ... and paid our bill in full ... and the dialogue with the waiter was amicable. I am not a person that would normally comment on a bad experience in a restaurant, but seeing as there was already a current thread on the restaurant's cooking, thought it appropriate to contribute, telling you of our very recent experience there. We do not wish to harm the business of the place, and indeed it is our intention to visit the Roof Bar at least one more time.

Lol..Lilly, message 31,32 & 33,you.ve really brightened this thread up, sooo funny :o) I think its terrible when people come on and complain. we have had 3 restaurants named this week, luckerly the owners have come forward and said something but not all restaurant owners come on cyprus 44. I think it can be damaging for them and i think its very unfair. even in top restaurants all over the world cant get it perfect every time, give them a break,,stop trying to put them down.wouldnt it be better to recommend good restaurants rather than the ones that didnt go quite perfectly for you

I am curios, the waiter came to clear the table and the rice was cold. That is like complaining that the ice has melted in your drink on a hot summer day. I would probably have expected you to claim that your rice was cold to me during the meal when it was actually served, then I might give you an apology and perhaps a free drink, I might even bring some hot rice. Just a thought !!!

| Have also tried the food here, including a Chinese meal in the last week without any problem. Our impression was that it was good, decent food at less than half the price of the other Chinese restaurant(s). To get all the spices and special ingredients necessary to supply oriental food for just a seven day period is quite a task. Credit to them. Unsure why the OP waited until they had finished the meal before questioning the waiter if he could ......"see anything wrong"...........(?) Are you serious? people leave food un-eaten for more than one reason. If faced with a similar problem (food not hot/cooked well enough etc) we all are faced with a choice; fix it or let it fester. Why not tell the waiter to take it away and get it re-heated there and then! Problem solved. Rather than allowed to develop into bad feelings and subsequent whingeing on a public forum after the event. If you don't mean any harm to a business then why post it on here? | A little light reading for the OP, A quote by Charles Swindoll: "The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes." |

If JillyJugs is in fact Little Nige then I am not surprised, because he complains about food all over the island. St Tropez, Guidos, Grape Garden, it goes on. He usually complains about frozen vegetables being served and in one establishment at christmas he could not have been more wrong because we watched the vegetables being prepared.

Why do people do this? Hide behind false names etc, and post things. It really should not be allowed. If some one has a point to make they should be prepeared to air it in the open under their own Genuine name. I beleive the time has come when the Mods should tighten up, Give false people their own section If you are prepared to come on here and make complaints about a person or a business, ok it may be perfectly justified, But you should have the bottle to say who you are. Otherwise quite frankly what you are saying really dosn't mean much Roof Bar could you try the Chinese week again please, ? I think lots of us want to try it.

Once again thank you all for the nice comments. Unfortunately we can not extend the Chinese week as this week will be 'The Happy Week' with 20% discounts on 'The Barrel' menu and the week after that will be Carribean Food week we will be having 'Special Food Weeks' every second week, so there will be many more different types of food for you to try! We have scheduled a few weeks in advance so maybe after them we will put the Chinese Food Week back due to the high demand
