I think Vaugham has an HD/Sky+ box that he will swap for a regular box, the HD/HDD is no good to him, but remember, the best boxes for fringe reception are the older ones.

re msg 4

>>the best boxes for fringe reception are the older ones.<<

WHAT ??!! - That's a bit of a generalisation ..based on my experience it depends WHAT dish you have - if you want BBC / ITV on a 4.2m ...The best older boxes were the Javlin mini and Pace 2600... none of the others are in that league

The best modern tuners with record facility are the HD receivers.( black) . the SKY Plus ( white / silver boxes ) are nought special

If it's for a 1.8m - I know that the HD boxes can get upset - if they don't constantly receive info from the default transponder - recording fail / schedule doesn't look far ahead.. but I can't hand on heart say I'd recommend an older receiver other than the pace 2600 / Javlin mini

Perhaps Iceman can put me straight as I'm not familiar with the 1.8m offset characteristics

I am not looking to go back to uk for some time, which is why I wish to purchase here.I would like just the basic channels that include ITV Hd etc as I have already subscribed to the new premiership football channels from abu dhabi ( legit).

Dear CY air soft re msg 8

The SKY HD box must be in a well ventilated area and if it is running hot you need to ensure that it has air circulating around it - it shouldn't have devices places above / below it that are also generating heat - there needs to be 2 cms clearance above and below

IF you HD unit is running hot and it IS well ventilated than your fan may be blocked with household dust... you need to get the dust blown out and ensure the cooling fan runs...

It sound like the cooling system can't cope or has failed already.... you may need the unit repaired :(

You can pm me and we can talk on SKYPE - I know a good HD repair man ;)
