Pork scratchings Heavy and hard, we are talking fatty pig skin deep fried and then doused in salt. Also, if you are lucky you might even get one sporting a few hairs; pig hair is usually removed by quickly burning the skin before it is cut into pieces and cooked in the hot fat. Fried desserts Fried desserts feature high up on the list of worst foods to eat as essentially you are dipping something in batter that is already high in sugar and fat, and then deep frying it.

Cheesy chips Chips or fries could feature as a bad food on their own, but, as you know we are all about moderation here at realbuzz.com and seriously cutting chips from your life totally would be a hard move. But taking a plate of chips and layering them in cheese, well, that takes them up a notch in the bad food stakes. Fizzy drinks Pop and soda - yeah they're bad, mainly because they pack massive amounts of calories even in small quantities, so you are adding to your daily calorie quota and getting little nutritional value in return. Studies have also linked fizzy drink consumption to osteoporosis, tooth decay and heart disease.

Coloured alcopops Cutting alcohol totally from your diet is a bit like the chip situation, not entirely practical and could lead to a generally joyless existence, but there are boozy drinks that are far worse than the others and alcopops are one of them. Alcopops are again big calorie culprits as they are packed with sugar and calorific alcohol. Liquid meals Okay, they aren't inherently bad for you, but liquid meals or meal-replacement drinks do keep you from eating proper food.

Processed meats These are also sometimes referred to as 'mystery meats' because it's ambiguous as to what some of them actually contain. But you can be assured that if it comes from a can and is kind of unrecognisable - it's not going to be great for your body. Chicken nuggets First off, chicken nuggets that are not made from fillets are the real bad guys. Again it's similar to the sausages situation, all the leftover carcass bits mixed up with sawdust-type stuff to bulk out the meat so manufacturers can crank out more portions. But it's when these little nuggets are deep fried that really boosts their 'worst-food' status and it's all to do with the size.

Doughnuts If there is one food that epitomises the 21st century junk food it's the doughnut. Coated, filled, glazed, sugared, jam crammed or plain old ring they are not great for your body. And it's not only the refined flour, refined sugar and then the frying in the refined oil that makes them bad for you. Canned soups Now, soups don't seem to be one of the bad boys and in comparison to some of the above, and they probably can sit quite comfy in the middle of the bad-food scale, but it's their salt-packing stealth that gets them into this list. Soups mainly sport a healthy identity; wholesome, warming and good for you. The reality is many canned varieties are super-high in salt, so if you must have soup, avoid the canned ones or make your own.

msg 4, I make my own chicken nuggets, well I say chicken nuggets, I mean battered pieces of chicken breast in sweet and sour sauce ;-) I don't buy chicken 'burgers' either. Make my own by hand mincing chicken breast with a little spring onion and a few herbs and spices. Putting a dollop between cling film and flattening. Freezing then cooking from frozen on bbq. Delic.

Many foods can be made healthy with a little adjustment. Cheesy Chips - Use Slimming World Chips: Chop your chips, Microwave or par-boil, dry and place on a baking tray, season and bake in the oven until crispy. then add your cheese - low fat cheese is better than full fat - A fab meal withouth the fat content!!!!

No 1 Doyen: Coloured alcopops Cutting alcohol totally from your diet is a bit like the chip situation, not entirely practical and could lead to a generally joyless existence, but there are boozy drinks that are far worse than the others and alcopops are one of them. Alcopops are again big calorie culprits as they are packed with sugar and calorific alcohol. Absolutely agree with this statement. Stick to Spirits and diet drinks. Any Slimming World member will tell you that a Pint of beer/larger/Cider is 10 syns, Wine (per glass) is 6 syns, whilst 25mls of Whiskey, Brandy and other spirits is 2.5 syns with diet mixer, so you can have 4 brandy & diet cokes for 1 pint of beer/cider (25 mls of course!!!!!)

Cont: You also state: 'but liquid meals or meal-replacement drinks do keep you from eating proper food' This is a waste of money when you can eat so much fruit, veg, eggs etc here which the body needs - you just need to learn which is the right foods to each. Meal replacements do work under the right conditions. The important thing to learn is that you need to work off the food you eat. If you eat/drink high calerie drinks/food then you need to work off those calories and that means EXERCISE. If you reduce the caleries that you eat then you do not need to work off so many calories.

Hildy There is plenty of evidence out there that you are wrong... your body will burn off pretty much all you eat without the need for much in the way of exercise as long as your diet is well balanced and in the right quantities. The western world has been virtually having a banquet for over 50 years... too much of what is only acceptable in small quantities and far too little of what your body really needs. The amounts of protein and carbohydrate in juxtaposition to vegetables and fruit has been out of whack ever since the end of war time rationing. Don't get me wrong your body needs exercise for good health because it promotes good posture, muscle tone and makes your respiratory and vascular systems work and keeps them in good shape.

Seafood, soft/blue cheese, homemade mayonnaise, certain ice cream, liver..............and don't even get me started on the no-alcohol! Joking aside, I am happy not to eat any of this to keep my baby safe and I have some interesting cravings to look forward to........... |

I am prescribed 10 mil Lipitor to combat cholesterol. Does anyone know please if it is bad to over-dose on olive oil as I use it for all frying pan cooking rather than normal cooking oils ? I could be wasting money as it is of course expensive. Incidently, I read somewhere that the majority of Pork Scratching brands sold in pubs contain no pork whatsoever and the flavouring is chemical from a laboratory accompanied by artificial colourings, preservatives, e number ingredients, sodium, etc.

A combination of being blind Pugh and arthritis make using an oven difficult and the Wildebeest berates me if I make a mess. | Sadly any food in TRNC you really need to get with it. I had the worst food there for a long time and I live in a bit of a culinary desert in the UK. Seriously the food I experienced was always boring, usually overcooked and mediocre at best. Really sad to say this. |

Lillian, That's not what this thread is about... it's not about restaurants it's merely about unpalatable dishes - like Rice Pudding - if you hate the stuff (I do). Suggest you try restaurants over Hungerford and Newbury way... If you look up Swindon in the dictionary it says:- Swindon, verb to starve. See also shit-hole, minging crap heap, useless football team.

| Spaghetti my mother used to force me to eat it as a child and it always got stuck in my throat! She was the worst cook in the world and always boiled chicken so she could make her version of chicken soup with rice in it. yuck Also her gravy always had lumps and she put doughballs (dumplings) in the mince which were always soggy. | Chris Your mum/my mum sound the same! Here's a classic for you... Spaghetti Bolognese... had no minced beef so used Corned Beef instead. Yucky, still makes me gag thinking about it... bless you mum, luckily I went away to boarding school aged 12 and learned to cook properly. I guess they were children of WWII and got used to making dishes with substitutes... Amongst my top ten foods I've never taken to.... Rice Pudding Tapioca Pudding Sago pudding Blancmange Junket Yucky stuff, hate them all.... |

Groucho (73) You've nailed it! Simply fab, and don't forget the bread for mopping up all that lovely garlic ! " (61) In this year's 'I'm a Celebrity' jungle show, Sean Ryder had to eat a crispy-fried tarantula (served up cold, of course) as part of his bushtucker trial. His verdict? Delicious! He wasn't kidding, either. Once our eyes get a sight of something we recognise as being 'nasty' or 'yucky', our brain responds accordingly and all the 'reject! reject!' responses go into overdrive. Me mam used to keep our inner beings warm during the cold Winter months with breakfast of fried bread which we then smothered in marmalade. Fantastic start to the day and incredibly more-ish! But how fattening was that ??!
