Friday night saw a horrible show of three english men on holiday in Lapta. My husband was attacked by three men in a bar on Lapta strip. They came back at him with a smashed bottle and went for his face. He managed to stop them but got two severed tendands and a cut artery.

These three were looking for anybody to fight with this night and my husband just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Dont get me wrong we had spoke to them to say hello before this all blew up. They said they were staying in a villa near the stumble with their wives and nine children between them. So it seems to make it worse that they are family men and can still go around showing this kind of behaviour.

Please just be careful in starting conversations with a group of english tourists at the moment. Dont want anyone to suffer the way my husband and my family have the last few days.

Thanks for the warning. This kind of scum were never attracted to N Cyprus before the trailer trash arrivals post-2003.

"trailer trash arrivals post-2003" That's a bit of a sweeping statement isn't it? This sort of behavior is despicable & I hope the police were called and these 'thugs' dealt with but surely it's wrong to tarnish all visitors from England just because of a vile minority. My husband and I are hoping to eventually retire in the beautiful T.R.N.C. and one of the main reasons is that it is so safe and free from the thugs and hooligans that walk our streets nowadays. Lets hope the police in T.R.N.C stamp this out firmly and let the 'lager louts' know they are not welcome!

Maybe that's one advantage of NOT having cheap flights from the likes of EasyJet, Ryanair etc - having to pay a bit more obviously doesn't keep all the scum out but it must help a bit eh?

There are low lifes wherever you go, sadly that is the way of the world, I agree with Maggie and Bernie that we are lucky that they are relatively scarce in TRNC due to the high cost of getting here.

I would still be interested to know who the trailer trash arrivals post 2003 are though, I am intrigued with that statement.

Sorry to hear what happened to your husband, I hope he is ok and makes a full recovery from this awful attack, how sad that this type of behaviour is finding it,s way to TRNC.

Pussycatuk,

Please if you have not informed police, please do so. As long as these people are going to get away with this sort of thing more will come and not be detered.

If you havent told the police think about the next unsuspecting person and the next. Please Please do something about this.

I agree wholeheartedly with Johnty - these people need to get the message loud and clear that this sort of thuggery will not be tolerated here like it is in other places. They need to be punished then deported and never allowed back.

Hang on...Pussycat...surely you called the police?

You have their descriptions and know roughly where they are staying. The TRNC Police will have them arrested and in front of the court for their due deserve before they can carry out another meaningless attack on someone else.

I do hope your husband makes a full recovery, however, I am sure he will feel slightly better knowing these "thugs" are locked up.

What do you think?

{English say no more} thats a bit strong.

Perhaps if they stopped flying into Larnaca it would help.

Where do you get off saying that people who are not well off and try to find cheap flights are scum .

So lets make the flights dearer and keep those tourists out, unfortunately that would only keep out 'the poor people'.but who cares as long as the cost of flights doesnt deter the likes of,

They probably committed a few muggings to pay for their flight, so do not assume they have no money.

Three on one? Call the police in, they know how to handle these yobs. No PC or soft rights here for these heroes to hide behind.

hi guys

the difference between the uk and the trnc is cyprus is a small place and there

isn,t too many places you can hide ,so you will be caught and when you are you will be dealt with severely ,hence the low crime .

i would be intrested on the outcome

police in non uniform are going around lapta for the next few nights to see if they can find these men. Hope they dont go home before they get found. I dont mean to say typical english but the breaking of the bottle to get somebody does seem like something one of the locals would not dream of doing. I am sorry if any of my comments seem harsh but as you will all understand I am very upset at the moment with all this.

*Thanks Derick will pass your message on.

thank you for all your kind posts...somebody thinks they may have seen the people in sunset today..

i dont understand why the police were not called asap...if they had then maybe my husband would not be fighting to save his fingers.

Anyway, all i know at this time is that one was dark haired and the other two were blonde. One blonde had glasses. Mid twenties to Mid thirties. Not much more to say. Their fists didnt have an accent so cant say where they are from.

Only wanted to warn you all that not all holiday makers are worth talking to. Its a shame that this has happened but has not put us off the TRNC. We understand that this does not happen all the time.

I am sorry for your Husband and I hope he recovers quickly, although it will leave a Mental Scar.

I do hope that TRNC can copy the Singaporean rule, if you are involved in something like this, it is recorded on the Immigration Database and a Stamp put in your passport, NO ENTRY ALLOWED when you leave, that way you are not marked forever. If this was to happen in TRNC Louts would disappear very quickly.

While talking, did they not by any chance say how long they were here for.If you could tell the police roughly when they were flying out they could just keep a watch.

A party of 3 couples and 6 children travelling as a group would be kind of unique. If flying to and from Ercan then the booking could be traced thro the airline. If travelling to Larnaca then its likely they would cross the border together, again noticeable.

Hope you're husband's recovery is speedy and there is no long term damage. We'll be thinking about you both. I think it is so sick that a few mindless idiots can potentially ruin a person's career. Something similar happened to a consultant we know in Bahamas I think it was. Lost a finger - big problem - he's an ENT surgeon.

I really hope these people are caught - your description and anything more from those around at the time will surely help.

Any luck - they're already in a nice hot cell awaiting some justice.

hello pussycatuk, I am so sorry to hear about your troubles. The attack was atrocious and I am sure that you are suffering along with your husband. Hopefully these people will go to the event at JK's and the police wil be waiting for them. If their family are unaware of how violent their husband/father is maybe when they hear of the terrible injuries they have inflicted whilst under the influence of drink will have a sobering effect on all. Take care and I do hope that they are caught who knows they might already have left another person injured since the attack on your husband.

hi to all, and sorry to hear about the incident!

if they live in a villa near stumbles, it might be behind the elif minimarket opposite celebrity hotel.

stumbles was built by my father inlaw ozer, and was then called Halikarnas Fish Restaurant. you might want to ask mehmet who owns elif minimarket, he may know of them. the police should have found them by now....strange!

unless they have flown back to the uk.

scum like that do not blend with the scenery, they are passing by trade!!

In uk the pubs have a ring around system. If there has been trouble in one bar then that bar rings the next on the list that bar rings his next contact and so on Word can be spread very fast so all the bars are on the look out for the trouble makers. Also the police can be informed very fast as well Maybe after this horrific attack this should be instigated. Still dont know why the bar owners who ever they are never informed the police straight away!

Hope all went well with your husband.

I still ask why nobody called the police. I was not there when it all blew up. So did not know the extent of the fight until my husband called me on the way to the hospital.

The police seem to think they would have gone home (uk)after doing such a thing, so I think they may have just left it at that. I dont think they would have gone home. They seemed too brash(from what i saw) to run after the event. Also not sure how hurt they may have been. Their wives were not with them so they may not know anything of the event that took place. They may not even know their husbands are capable of such things.

the bar owner put a chair over the back of one to get them off when more than one person had my husband on the ground.

We are very lucky my husband had responses as quick as he had,the guys actually went for his face. He could have lost an eye of even had his throat cut. Luckily its his hand and wrist that were slashed.

With the system that operates at the various crossing points one would think that the police would be able to check the computer records which should show such a large party entering or leaving the TRNC,they must have also had transport to and from the airport and/or car hire, strikes me that the police are not to bothered, after all its only a "brit"

Surely for such a large party of people they stick out like sore thumbs. The Villa Owner or people in nearby Villas surely would notice or read this forum.

I am thinking it might be wise to look for them at the Lapta Belediyesi Park Restaurant tonight. Always a possibility they may go to it. It`s karaoke with I think Tony. Anyway folks, be alert. The police station is only just around the corner.

pussycatuk - has your husband been interviewed by the police?? I just can't believe why these people have not been arrested yet - how can they possibly escape?? Not unless they were on a day trip from the South. It just beggers belief.

the bar owner made the initial report and they have not even been to see my husband. I dont understand it all either. My husband now wants to forget the whole thing and let it go but i am still angry at what they did and like said in previous posts, dont want this to happen to other people.

I dont think they should be treat with the friendly manner that the rest of us deserve.

Really sorry to hear about this. We(wife and 2 young children) have just got back from a great week at the Malpas Hotel and everyone in TRNC were so friendly. We flew in and out of Larnaca, but guess who was causing trouble in the airport, yes the Brits.I know you cannot tar everyone with the same brush but it is always the same.We went to TRNC to get away from these sort of people and hopefully they will feel the full force of the law and not spoil a beautifull country.Hope your husband gets well soon.

Having heard a few rumours of this horrible incident I think there are more than2 sides to this story.

Pussycats version

Her hubbys version

The thugs version

The bar owners version

And what acctually happened.

Could the events have been avoided ?

Why oh Why did the bar owner not call the Police as events unfolded ?

I hope the thugs are caught justice prevails and lessons are learned.

If the alleged victim hasn't even made a complaint, then it's highly unlikely a crime report has been reported or logged. I agree with Nige. The police probably think drunken English yobs aren't worth wasting time on. As I said before, the TRNC seems to have attracted undesirables and lowlifes in huge numbers in recent years

I agree that they will have their version which is why it would be better if i could catch up with them to ask them their version. I was not there at the time and can only go on what my 13 year old daughter saw and what my hubby remembers, which he claims not to be too much once the fighting started.

My husband has never been in a fight in his life so this comes as a big shock to all his family. I am only saying this so you know that its not in his manner to be fighting. Verbally or physically.

my husband is doing ok...got a little movement in fingers now. Got lots of work to do to get full use of his hand again though. Will take months.

We went to the police a week after this all happened with info that people had passed onto us from this post and by texting us. The police had not heard anything about the incident. We put a report in instantly. We then went to the bar owner and asked why he had lied to us....

The bar owner told his version to the police and it all seemed to be way out of line. For instance he said he missed some of it as the music was playing..the music had stopped some hours earlier!!!! then it was said that my husband broke a glass in his own hand...I could go on and on with the little discrepincies in the bar owners story. As he told the the nurses in casualty and also to my mother when she turned up that he had been attacked. He brought a police friend with him to our home on a sunday - not official may i say and said that if we proceeded then they would prosecute my husband also and that we should retract the statement we made. The bar owner is on his last warning for trouble in his bar and if my husband had gone ahead with stuff he would lose his licience. Which is why he brought his friend (police officer) around to get us to cancel the statement.

Gosh, am really surprised this kind of violence has found its way to Northern Cyprus. Hope your husband is getting better PussycatUK.

I must agree Brits abroad don’t have the best reputation but I know that TRNC visitors don’t tend to be in this category. I would like to think this is a one off but seems not judging by the situation the bar owner is in. Unless of course previous incidents were locals.

It really is a sad state of affairs , but if you read the papers in North Cyprus crime rate appears to be on the up , i do hope the officials take note of this as the TRNC is such a lovely place , the question is for how long ?

not sure what they would charge him with but he was unsettled at the thought of even being charged. We love this country and did not want to do anything that would make us have to leave.

The CACTUS bar has a lot to answer for. I would not name it at first but as they have been so bad about the whole situation then i have no worries in doing so now.

Pussycatuk, I do hope that you and your family can put this incident to the back of your minds, eventually. Obviously the bar owner is well in with the law. You live there and yet you are not scared to mention the bar or the owner that must show something. There must be something else that you can do to get justice for your husbands injuries and the trauma your daughter must be going through? Take care and remember these thugs are only in a minority the world over and what goes around comes arounds.

Quotes: "The Cactus Bar has a lot to answer for" and "it should be blacklisted".

Please don't forget that you are only getting one side of the story here. The owners of this bar are not responsible for what happened to this man and you seem to have forgotten all about the 3 men that carried out this attack.

It is a shame that the bar owner is now taking all the flack for this incident despite the fact that he "put a chair over the back of one of them to get them off". Maybe if the victim had reported it to the police straight away instead of waiting a week then the police may have had a chance to find the actual perpetrators.

I am sorry that your husband was injured but if my husband was attacked I wouldn't be relying on other people to go to the police.

PIPIE- after the fireworks display in the car park behind the big screen t.v and the tombs. T.C lads parked up in their souped up hondas and corsas etc started bothering my friends attractive girlfriend and when he took them to task and stood up for her they swarmed on us, about five of them with about another five or six between the cars, a proper gang. An Indian looking chap helped us stop them after they had punched and kicked him in the head, it was terrifying and his girl was screaming and crying. Someone called the Police but the guys had all faded into the night and the Police just looked on and had a walk round. A very rare occurence i think but it was obviously not the first time they`d done something like that judging by the way they worked.

Now it is funny you should say the carpark, cause back in July we saw cars ,gangs parked with music blaring and we commented , then, that this gathering was unusual , in fact it reminded us of the UK , As anyone else seen these gatherings ? certainly needs discouraging as we felt ,how can i say uneasy , but there was no trouble .

That`s exactly how it was and the intimidating feeling same as you do get in the U.K. Two of the guys were tall with "mullet" hair styles, all late teens, early twenties. Think the Police should park there unless they know them.
