I have just been notified of a decision taken in November 2005 of a main sewage charge of 1100tl. to be paid by 26th September 2010. Our appartment is just west of town centre. Is this an area thing!

We have owned the appartment for 7 years, fully paid and have the deeds.

Any comments welcome.

I live near to Jasmin Court and a stack of those letters were delivered to my block.No letter had a name or apartment number on they were just put on the door.I dont think there is going to be a big rush with people dashing to pay it somehow.

JimmyG sorry but we have just had an email from our neighbour who says we all have a bill but as we are not flying out until next week. message 2 probably answers your question.

Thanks Temomed & Clara - looks like I'll have the same thing when I get back on 3rd October!! Maybe there will be no rush tp pay but no doubt we'll all have to in the end.

how will TC's be able to afford such a large bill, equal to about a month's minimum wage?

This charge is for what is called 'Kanalizasyon' by the Belediyesi it is to receive permission to connect into the main sewage system. You then have to get together with the owners in your block to arrange a builder to actually do the work at your own cost.

If you do not pay I believe they take your water meter away!

So, EU funding for improvement to Girne infrastructure hasn't covered this..........makes a person slightly suspicious?



Perhaps someone with 'connections' should query this with the relevant EU 'loan', or subsidy, department?

But if you have a septic tank, which you have to have emptied at your own cost anyway, why would they then threaten to cut off your water, when you pay for this supply via your rates ?

My tc friend recived a similar but larger demand. They live in Gonyeli and local gov were putting in new roads and pavements. They were all billed for their proportion of the cost.

Sorry but i think you just have to pay up.

when i lived in turkey the council came along resurfaced the road well as good as they do, then time a bill came in there was a big lump as my share for the new road, no info or anything to anyone before the bills arrived

In my apartment block the locals wont even contribute to paying for a cleaner so I dont think they will be coughing up five hundred pounds at the drop of a hat!
