Hi all, Given the rapidly escalating cost of Electricity in The TRNC (as well as everywhere else) does any board member know of a TRNC company that specialises in generating energy from these sources. Given that we are a small estate of 19 villas at Esentepe(Windy Hill) there should be opportunities either individually or collectively for a scheme! wynyardman

Simbas, Your solar panels are for heating up the water. They are simply pipes behind a glass and as the water heats up from the sun it rises into the hot water store and cooler water from the bottom of the same store gets to the pipes to heat up again. They are not for generating electricity. They use Photovoltaic solar panels for that i.e. a little tiny winy electricity appears accross each photovoltaic crystal as the sun shines on them and they utilize that to generate electricity. ismet

hi ismet . so could i change the panels to photovoltaic or just leave the solar panals for heating the water and get a few photovoltaic panels for electricity , and would it be cost effective , what do you think ? hope you are all keeping well , regards , pat

Simbs, You keep your solar panels for heating water as they are and forget generating electricitymfrom photovoltaic cells. You can generate electricity during the daytime when you have the sun shining but you need electricity mostly at night time. The use of batteries for storage is not economical. The best way is to feed the electricity you generate during daytime into the grid and then use electricity from the grid at night time. EU member countries have to allow this but TRNC has not caught up with the times yet. That will happen when you all get your PTPs and the Kocans and then it will be the turn of the electricity matter!!! ismet

Hi all, I have just seen this post after I replied to energy saving thread. The cahp I was talking to on the canal this morning does save his to batteries to use at a later date. If we all used solar /wind power to generate electricity it would work out cheaper for all in te long run. I saw 3 wind machines last week going towards southend, they cost £1,00,000 each but the energy the generate will be recouped in 3 years so I was told. They are huge and noisy where could they be located????????

Elko is right (as usual). EU countries (including RoC) have schemes where PV systems are heavily subsidised (by the tax payer) so that they become more affordable. They also have schemes where the local power generator, Kib Tek in our case, has to buy any surplus electricity from these so-called renewable sources at uneconomical, to them, rates (also subsidised by the tax payer). That way payback times are acceptable. Without these schemes, the whole thing is a bit of a non-starter, financially. Shame.

| With sharply rising utility costs it may be very economic to look at Micro Generation Plants. I was involved in such a scheme 30 years ago in the UK where a modified Fiat diesel was used to provide Electricity and hot water for a development of 20 houses. At the time it showed savings of over 35%, with a cost return saving in 3 years. Similar units are being used more widely today to provide cost savings and independence from Utilities. For any scheme of 10 or more properties it would be interesting to look at the set-up costs. I have bought on a development of 14 villas, and my tenants will obviously be hit by these increases. Having read about these price rises, I think I will start some new research! In a NC winter, savings could be excellent if you are getting Electricity, Hot Water and heating. | There is another thread on this theme somewhere. Our neighbours installed wind generator and solar panels plus batteries, when I asked about the viability of getting them for ourselves the answer was along the lines of do not waste your money. For domestic use the technology just is not there yet. |

Hi Robnjo, Great posting. With the cost, and the inconsistent nature of electricity supplies in the TRNC, it must be a proposition that would be of interest to an estate of 19 villas. I for one would be very interested to hear further of your investigations and reccomendations. wyn

Sorry Wynyardman ..couldn't think of a joke connected to Wind Power ... just wind ..... Doctor, "What seems to be the problem?" Patient, "Doc, I've got the farts. I mean I fart all the time," The Doctor nods, "Hmm." Patient, "My farts do not stink and you can't hear them. It's just that I fart all the time. Look, we've been talking here for about 10 minutes and I've farted five times. You didn't hear them and you don't smell them, do you?" "Hmm," says the Doctor, He picks up his pad and writes out a prescription. The patient is thrilled "Great doc. This prescription, will it really clear up my farts?" "No," sighs the Doctor, "The prescription is to clear your sinuses. Next week I want you back here for a hearing test."

Wyn How about 19 donkeys for 19 villas...Would that provide enough wind for you???? Instead of flaring off the methane produced why not bottle it and sell it under the Wyndgas label...Jock and I for a small fee can provide you with some technical know how!!!! Your ever helpful friend Jim

wackyjim, When it comes to hot air, you can certainly speak with some authority! You and Jock1 can bottle it and market under the Assgas label! wynyardman
