Has anything been done about the young boy and his grandmother who were stealing and begging? They were last seen in Karsiyaka and I haven't heard much since.

I sent their photos to a number of Cy44 members so they can steer clear and have heard from one that they were seen in July around and about Karsiyaka.

They have now been round and about in Lapta we had to chase then 3 or 4 times last week. The old lady didn't like it much as she was shouting abuse at us. We also told the police this after the break in a few doors from us on Wednesday night!

We are due out in a couple of weeks so will keep guard again. They found their way to our house in July on the last day of our holiday. I took very good photos and have sent these to a number of people. I still have them if anyone else wants them. Linda

If you do want these photos, email me on linnyloos@live.co.uk

Seems to me that if the police do not soon pick them up, someone is going to take the law into their own

hands which would be tragic, and I dont mean for the old woman and the boy. People can be pushed just too far and then loose it big time. I saw them a couple of weeks ago by SARDUNYA BAR (beach bar) the

boy was throwing stones at the old woman.

Still if the police have to be pushed by the Founding President to take action on a potential murder attempt

what chance is there for any of us. (talking about the vehicular attack on Chris)

Photos sent to all who asked.

There is another, older grandson, although I haven't seen him, but they all abuse each other. When they were at our house the grandmother punched the boy in the face....twice. Also, the boy is known to torture and kill small animals, namely dogs, so be cautious. It wasn't nice to turn someone away when they were only asking for something to eat and drink but with these people it was the best thing to do as apparently they do not leave you alone. If this happens you can't leave your house in fear of what may happen.

It sounds like this family are mentally unstable. Surely, even in TRNC there is something in place to take care of people like this. Where are they living? Why not report the incidents to the Muhtar of the village and see if he can do something about them. I worry that if this boy is harming animals, when would he move on to hurting children, most of the sickest serial killers started out torturing animals.

I've only ever seen them the once and recognised them immediately through the postings on here in the past but from what has been posted before they are known and there doesn't seem to be anything done to them. They are apparently known to the police and some of the shopkeepers won't allow them in because of the shoplifting etc.

They have also been known to stop cars asking for money and food.

We only took the photos because we had friends coming out to stay at our house and I wanted to warn them beforehand.

Some years ago,on holiday in Side,my then wife would give to the same beggar and her child every evening. They always looked unkept and dirty.

She asked the hotel manager about them, and why they are not there after six.Oh,he says, her chauffeur picks her up at 6 and takes her to her villa !!!!

Spoke to David (cyprusishome) last night.

Although still very upset about this second break in, he has emailed the Cyprus Today newspaper in the hope that they will run a story regarding the problem with this family who live in Karsiyaka village.

He has also going to see the Muhtar on monday.

This is a very well known family in Karsiyaka. The grandmother is raving mad (poor cow) but can be dangerous, the grandson (he is about 11-13) has been a nightmare to the villagers (not only foreigners) and he has an older brother who is as bad. The police know all about them, take them in, give them a warning and off they go to do the same thing again. My Turkish Cypriot neighbour had a run in Friday with them she stood there ages demanding money or food until he said he would let the dog out. She gets a pension from the government, she also has a daughter and son-in-law in village who seem to be going the same way as she is. Often see her in the shop in the village demanding her food for nothing, soon gets short shift from the owners.

I do hope they find out who burgled Davids home and are punished severely. Lets hope they are caught quickly.

When the old lady and boy came to our house they sat on our wall for about 20 minutes. The grandmother was asking for food and water and, hard as it was, I refused and told them in no uncertain terms to go away. Our 7 year old granddaughter was so frightened by them that she was shaking and crying. They may look placid but they are quite scary. When they finally went the grandmother punched the boy in the face twice. As I went to walk indoors I noticed an older boy walking down our road but he turned and went away. My husband is of the opinion that the grandmother and boy may have been there to distract us so the other boy could enter our house. Whether that is true or not we may have been very lucky.

I do hope Cyprus Today can spur the police into doing something about them.

My mum just told me that her friends are constantly being harrassed by these people in Karsiyaka, always begging and being abusive, she said that they always have different puppies with them, very unusual for them to have the same dog for very long, god only knows what happens to the poor little things. Always fighting amongst themselves, and the grandmother is quite often sporting a black eye. The grandmother thinks nothing of pulling her pants down and having a poo in the road! Sound like a really nice family. If they are not TCs and are constantly being reported to the police why is it that havent been deported? Surely even if they have citizenship it can be revoked for behaviour like this?

you say they get a pension from the government. Do mainland turkish get a pension from the TC government. It sounds like you peope there put up with a lot from them. Nothing ever gets done, do the police not even speak to them. Is there a man in the house or do the kids give her a black eye. It sounds unreal.

This old lady, usually with the younger boy, but sometimes has the older boy as well, are a complete menace in Karsiyaka. I am reliably informed that they regularly steal from houses and have, in the past been arrested, but police don't seem that bothered about them lying in the street, fighting amongst themselves and hurling abuse at you when they come to the house asking for money, food, drink, and get turned away.

As per previous comments, they usually have one or two dogs with them that the younger boy regulary kicks but if you say anything to him he chases after you! I've found the most effective way to get rid of them is to threaten them with a walking stick and say that you have already called the police. They then usually wander off, after more abuse and we then don't see them for a couple of days.

Then, it starts all over again.

Sounds like grandmother is definitely deranged and rest of family following suit. That makes all of them highly dangerous individuals, irrespective of age. Why are the local authorities, shopkeepers and TC residents merely 'annoyed' by them but doing nothing positive or constructive to have them rounded up and put into some sort of Care facility for the mentally unstable ? Do they know something about this family that the expats in Karsiyaka don't ?? Are they 'untouchables' for some reason ?

From what's been said on this thread it seems most folk think this family is behind the break-ins and thefts from their properties. As a matter of interest, what sort of things have been taken/ gone missing ? Was it random looting or more specific targetting of certain items ? This is all very bad press for Karsiyaka......

I agree with you nurse. This is threatening to become nasty for the old woman and her family, certainly we do not need a vigilante situation.

We had a convenience shop here in NI and there were several 'disfuctional/unstable' families that we had to bar from the shop for shoplifting, eating food before paying etc. I personally felt sorry for the children as they had no guidance, even to wash themselves, it was obvious that the parents themselves were 'Tuppence Short' One of the couples who were severely mentally handicapped themselves had 3 children that were even worse. It turned out that the parents were brother and sister! Thank goodness for benefits here and they were never condemned to beg, just put out to 'Care In The Community'

Is there such a thing in TRNC? This family sound like they need it.

Has anyone checked their house. bally i agree to a point, if they are getting away with it, they will go all the way. I cant take them hurting animals and by the sound if it the collect them for what. I'm sure there must be some care but what , are they Tc's or turkish mainlanders, they do not seem to get help, but they get a pension. from whom

Saw the Grandmother yesterday on her own on the outskirts of Lapta. Hope they haven't split up as the kids would be much harder to catch.

Message 36, is there any call for that remark, or any justification. It appears that these people have already been found guilty of all and any problems in Karsiyaka, does anyone have any proof ?

Hattikins like Chris said this has turned into a witch hunt, god help them all if they ever have to deal with dementia because the answer to that is to lock them away or even deport them.

That old lady has lived in Karsiyaka longer then any of us so what gives us the right to start dictating what should happen to her.

Yes i agree they can be a pain and if you are not used to dealing with someone with mental health issues it can be frightening especially with the language barrier.

I have read this thread and those before it concerning this family and it makes me sick that everyone is blaming them for everything. Get the proof they are guilty take it to the police and let them deal with it.

RE msg 41: Well said, Teresa, you're the voice of reason once again. Instead of sending each other pictures of the "culprits" wouldn't it be a better idea to pay a visit to the Karşiyaka Muhtar and discuss a solution to the obvious problem with him?

clif,

Have you been a victim of a burglary?

Actually, do any one of you know how many burglaries have been committed in the area?

It is starting to sound like everytime these people are seen, someone gets robbed!

Let's keep this in proportion.

Teresa and Hans (Messages 41 & 42). Is the Muhtar the only option? Would the Karsiyaka Belideyi (if there is one) have some sort of Social Services people. Better that they should intervene, before someone decides to take matters into their own hands, whether right or wrong!

HotHippo not sure what you want done with this family, Social services do not as far as i know have secure places so unless they tie the old lady to a chair they will not hold her, she is so used to wandering the streets that wherever they put her she will just walk out. The grandson is another matter but again not sure there is much anyone can do. Apart from begging i dont think they are guilty of anything else unless someone else knows different.

Hello Teresa, if they are cynical & scheming thieves, then let the Police deal with them.

However, if not, then I don't want anything to be done with them, other than for them to be offered some sort of appropriate and compassionate help. I just feel that, given the tone of some comments above, they are unlikely to receive anything like that.

To all those who have suffered, please don't hit me too hard with abuse, as I would also be blazing mad, if my home were to be ransacked!

At home, in Scotland, there are far too many poor souls who are nowadays being left to wander the streets of our towns and cities; many of them have been treated as Lepers, by people who ought to have more sense!
