Call me a cynic if you like but, there are NO non-stop flights in or out of Northern Cyprus apart from mainland Turkey.

When the small print has been digested it will no doubt become apparent.

Cyprusman3 are you implying that my uncle Old Phillipo the Not so Great is shagging my ainty Liz. Surely not. Old people don't do that sort of thing.

While we are on the subject of Monarchy is anybody aware the Phillipo has a mistress with children?

If your source is from within the travel industry, and they used the word "direct", the flight will be via Turkey.

If it was to come straight from Italy, they would have used the words "non stop".

Currently ICAO regulations do not permit non stop flights, and won't do till after a settlement or international recognition.

It's the old 'when is a direct flight not a direct flight? conundrum...

Non-stop is not what the poster said.... direct without having to switch planes even if they do touch down in Istanbul is still regarded as a direct flight... I don't agree with this description but that's the industry standard.

Sometimes they do continue without landing, especially when there are no passengers to get off or get on. I've been on one from Stansted that did not land in Turkey.

I don't believe there will be flights directly from Italy to Ercan otherwise there would be a little more response from the GCs

RE msg 15, Lilli: (...) we get flights from holland each week (...)

=> 1 : Flights starting in Amsterdam (Schiphol Airport) - and ending in TRNC - are not announced in the departure hall. People there only read Amsterdam -> Antalya. 2 : ALL flights from Holland land in Antalya before going on to Ercan (TRNC). There are no non-stop flights allowed although the Holland based Turkish carrier "Corendon" tried hard. And I personally find it hard to believe that any carrier would break the international rules with a non-stop flight to TRNC and that Turkey would allow such non-stop flights to arrive in TRNC.

Call me a cynical old sod if you like...I've heard stories and rumours about direct flight into Ercan for well over ten years. But none have proved true.

Okay - you're a cynical old sod

Seriously, I have been hearing about 'direct' or 'non-stop' flights for over 20 years.

Still waiting - oh well

Blackbird - I think you're right

Although, don't they say "everything comes to he who waits"?

Mind you, I was also told some years ago that if we bought a place in NC in 5 years time we would be rich. If I had a pound for every time I heard that, I'd be rich already

Your 'source' is almost certainly getting 'confused' with Ryannair saying they will offer a Milan - Larnaca service... ;)

actually I've been on two direct flights Stansted-->Ercan (or was it Gecikale?) We arrived at Stansted and discovered there were 2 flights within 30 minutes of each other going to Ercan and were told we were being moved to the other one. We asked why and were told the other flight was for those going to Ercan. They said no more until we got on the plane when we were told we were going direct to Ercan. Loads of people were peed off because they'd arranged pickups and would have to now hang around for them.
