This is worth a read - for a change, an extremely positive article on Turkey and North Cyprus. Nice if it all comes to fruition.....

Hello Perry,

Great post! Maybe, once the in-fighting on other threads has died down, more members might be cheered by reading this.

Thanks,

Eddie

Good link Perry.

Interesting statement - ""Homes here are as cheap now as they ever will be," the minister says, who like everyone else in the region is expecting this year to bring yet another steep hike in prices"

things must be looking up.

Sorry to play devils advocate here, but did the author of the article actually talk to any locals/expats who live here ?

From his piece on the TRNC I would guess not, it seems to me that he has listened to and regurgitated the platitudes of ministers who lets face it, don't have the best record in telling the truth !!

"Ersan Saner, Minister of Tourism, Environment and Culture, says despite the downturn, year-on-year visitor numbers were up one percent on last year because of investment it had made in its world-class corporate conference facilities." Funny, but I seem to recall hoteliers being up in arms about dwindling tourist numbers this year, with hotels only a third full.

Yes. a positive article but not necessarily an accurate one !!

That said, Istanbul sounds a fairly good bet if you want to invest in property. No restrictions for foreign buyers.......maybe the TRNC could learn a lesson or two ??

Just my opinion of course

I reckon Richard Powell has missed his vocation... 'turd polisher' is the job beckoning - pardon the pun.

Even the TRNC ministers must be baffled by how much rubbish he's managed to swallow and regurgitate.

The article was pretty accurate in my opinion and you will all see a big increase in property prices next year as I have had a project up for sale for a few years now and had no one interest in it and now theres 3 different developers showing interest and also in a small project i have in Zeytinlik too . So if we stop looking at the small picture of our own situation and look at the bigger picture, I think we can will that things are definately looking up. So lets all relish in the fact no matter how negative some people feel the reality is that this place is kicking off big time.

My wife would tell you that I am the eternal optimist but even my optimism stretches only so far

That said, I hope that 'dreams' do come true

The fact that someone has shown 'interest' in your project after a few years is hardly concrete evidence that the TRNC is on its' uppers. 'One swallow does not a summer make'.

As I said, I am just playing devils advocate but if you believe that the article was pretty accurate, I suggest that you were reading a different article to the one that I read.

Perry,

This guy has not done his homework properly.

In the TRNC you can buy property at reasonable prices, but if the builder does not want to give you your kochan, or if he runs into financial difficulty, you will never own it. There is no Specific

Performance law and there are"memorandums" which allow anyone to take your paid for property

to auction for any debts the builder may owe.

We were told to buy Pre 74 Turkish title land (at a premium) but now Brits are being refused PTPs

so that is another way they stop you from owning it.

TRNC IS NOT TURKEY! (at present) CAVEAT EMPTOR

NO KOCHAN HO MONEY the only safe policy

'Huffington Post' article states that Turkey is listed among the 10 safest countries to purchase property in.

What, exactly, makes that so - does anyone reading this forum know?

With the well deserved, shocking reputation that TRNC is increasingly earning itself, buying a villa here is about as safe as a white man buying a farm in Zimbabwe - so, that should put TRNC down to about 200 on the list!

Perry, Take a look at the description of TRNC on the Cyprus 44 Homepage ,Looks Great ,but hold on, there is no mention of Stray animals, rubbish on the beach ,poorly built houses, appalling infrastructure, nightmare scenarios with kocans etc. etc.

Cyprusman wrote, "stop looking at the small picture of our own situation and look at the bigger picture"

The big picture is that 100,000 people in the south have no title deeds and I would guess several thousand are waiting for them here and while that's happening there is very little to stop a memorandum being placed on what you thought was your property. BTW, I have my kocan but I would be interested in hearing that this is not true for others.

Wow !!

I only posted an article I saw on the internet which I thought may be of interest to people who have invested in property. With the responses, I feel like I wrote it (trying to stick up for TRNC)

Didn't expect to be invited to midnight vigils etc .......(sorry I am in the US on business so can't attend)

This board used to be all about information sharing - shame it has changed so much due to bad experiences from (many) members. Now it seems only negative postings are acceptable, and I DO understand the terrible situation many people have faced - but it is not across the board, and many many people have completed successful transactions in TRNC.

Before I get buried with criticism, we have gone through buying here and faced huge issues, but at the end of the day we took the risk of buying in a non EU country for a home in the sun - at a cheaper price than the rest of the Mediterannean. We still have some challenges - but overall we are OK.

There is a balance to this place..

Perry, don't be over-sensitive... nobody is thinking you wrote it but as far as the TRNC goes it's pretty blinkered piece of journalism.

That an investigative journalist is able to paint such a rosy picture about the property market here is frankly baffling....

There are many and varied good aspects to the TRNC but truth is important... the way some folk have (large numbers) have been swindled out of their life savings by the minefield of off-plan house purchase is outrageous... and yet somehow the author makes everything here seem idyllic.. go figure.

We like supporting the TRNC but you don't do that by lying....
