We went shopping in the South yesterday, mall of Engomi, and someone slashed both our front tyres, we spoke with the TRNC police at the checkpoint on the way back and unfortunately this seems to be quite common. SO beware if you go South.

plenty of g/c plated cars there to get your revenge on, superglue in the locks or on the wind screen wipers is a good one.

Apart from people arriving at Larnaca or Paphos why does anyone need to go to the dark side? They don't want us so WHY spend your money down there?

I agree Geronimo. I have been here over 5 years and bought only 1 thing in the South - a can of Pepsi while I was waiting for friends at Larnaca. If you live in TRNC then support TRNC. By the time you've paid the insurance and the petrol I can't see that you will gain much going South anyway. And Clifhanger, the best way to nobble a car is a 1 second squirt of builder's expanding foam up the exhaust. It is quick and out of sight and when the car stops after 200 metres it is the last place anybody will look. When someone did this to my friend in the UK it took his BMW dealer 4 hours to find the problem despite all their analysis gear.

It's a woman thing guys! We enjoy a girly day out at proper shops and department stores. TRNC shops are OK but you can't really spend a day window shopping in Girne!!! We don't necessarily buy anything but it gives us the chance to try things on and then purchase them on-line knowing how things will fit and look. Like I said a girly thing so know you blokes might not understand. I do find the comments about sabotaging other cars difficult to understand. It would be a criminal offence and the consequences if you were caught would be..........................................................

I'm sure Mall Of Engomi have CCTV in the car park. If it had been reported to the GC police they could have checked footage. (Asif they would bother ;-)

Why do we shop on the Greek side... Simple....price! We live in the TRNC and support the country financially in many ways, such as paying a hell of a lot for electric, gas, basic shopping, petrol, private schooling...I can go on.... HOWEVER there comes a limit....esp since the Pound has become so strong on the Euro recently. Example...I bought some rulers from Deniz plaza, basic simple Helix flexi ones, cost 5Lira each (needed 4). COST DARK SIDE 20cent each same ruler... Geometry set, here 5Lira there 30cent....again bought 4....so thats a total cost of 40Lira here and 4Lira there (2Euro).... The list is endless....we support this country by living here, we retain a freedom of choice as to where we shop

Friends of ours were going shopping in the south and we went with them and bought a leaf blower. It didn't work so we had to take it back, they tested it, agreed it was broken, sellotaped the box up and gave us a replacement. About a month later we were in the same shop and they was my broken leaf blower, in it's sellotaped box back on the shelf. Probably waiting for the next trnc purchaser who would think it's just too much trouble to take it back.

Exactly the same situation we had with a water heater timer... took it back, they eventually exchanged it but took the packaging off the new one and put the old one back on the shelf in it! Super Home Centre... we are watching you.....

We would rather shop in the south, at least the meat is tested and stamped in a proper fashion. The prices are lower and quality better. We spend a day in the south last monday travelling to see friends in Limassol, people couldn't have been more friendly. In six years we have only ever had one bad experience in the south, so not bad going. You could go anywhere in the world and experience the same!

If you must go to the south, then get a nice set of english number plates made in the UK,before you get to the car park your going to or place where you might be leaving your car parked up,put on the UK number plates over the top of your turkish ones, have them blue takked ready or even a couple of strips of double sided tape, they wont give your car a second look.

Message 14 That is so true. We live in the South for obvious reasons. We love it here. We would never consider living back in the North. But that is my opinion. We were miserable in the North and we are so much happier in the South. But everyone has there own preferences.
