I hope that you have not been attempting to use a zebra crossing as you are likely to incur road rage of blasting horn, headlights on main beam, one or two finger salute from a vehicle driver who will accelerate towards you rather than slow down. More dangerous than the Clockend used to be at Highbury for a visiting fan

What always made me laugh about the traffic lights in Turkey, was the driver that did eventually stop when on red, has to go about two car lengths in front of the lights, where he then can't see them change and rely's on the cars behind honking when the lights do change.

Here in Llangollen we have lots of tourists. They come in there droves, get off the coaches, and saunter across the roads oblivious of cars screeching to a halt or swerving to avoid them.

Blackbird - we get a lot of those here in Bury St Edmunds, too. Lots of very sweet older ladies, usually wearing white cardigans (for some reason) and with grey perms. They seem to lose all sense of road safety when they get off the coach Regards. Jean

...Just about every description of people appear to ignore basic road safety here Jeanie...although a lot of them do have a stick!

Waiting to cross the road on the zebra crossing from the auto park to telephone office in Girne, car coming from Girne stopped to let us cross, raised my hand in appreciation got to the centre of the road and a police 4X4 coming towards Girne didn't stop, I looked back at the car driver who had stopped, he smiled gave me the Cyprus shrug. N/C Road safety personified

Also in Girne - there was a zebra crossing, so we stopped to let this old gentleman across, he waved his thanks and then halfway across this sportscar (driven by young local kids) just overtook us and missed the old man by just inches - why have zerbra crossings if you don't know what they mean?? Also when you come up to a roundabout with 2/3 lanes, everyone goes into the first lane - we now drive into the second land, as we are taking the second lane out - that's what you should do - it's always empty, but you need eyes in the back of your head as everybody from the first/second/third lane will go out on the first, lane.... and God help you if you don't have a working horn - as in I will use my horn to tell you that I might just take the first, second or possibly third or possiby go around the roundabout again....

What would the Cypriots do without their horns ??? Both North and South are as bad as each other. I think the south is worst for it though. Message 6 ......They all do it in the south too !! It is so funny , by the time the lights have changed they are across the junction anyway !!! LOL
