We have experienced really bad reception on Dopi TV for months now, scrambled channels all the time and now we lose all the channels every so often. I have contacted Dopi on numerous occasions, been in the office, same old excuses, apparently it should all be working now!?! anyone else still getting problems or is it just us???

They told us when we renewed for 2nd year that it would be better but have found it exactly the same, freezing loss of service for minutes if not more. Gonna move to another provider when I can afford it.

Our contract is up in Jan next year! we are thinking of going back to Digiturk, they weren't brilliant but better than Dopi! My husband is furious because we got it mainly for the sport and he can't watch a single football game without it freezing.

I'm afraid there is more of this to come. Orbit cards have all been switched off recently and shortly, Showtime cards are being switched off too. The new technology doesn't allow thieving card sharers a look in. The Pirate's days are numbered.

we had dopi for one year - ok at first but past 6 months rubbish. Now have Digiturk, which is great. OK not so many channels but uninterrrupted premier games. 24 lira per month for basic package and 10 lira for premier. Thank God we never wasted any more money on Dopi...can't see them surviving for much longer anyway peoplke must be leaving them in droves

Washerman is recommending a system that receives a signal from nilesat folks with existing systems from Dopi can get Nilesat fee to air stuff anyway.. it isn't scrambled To get the premiere league stuff you'd need a new receiver and card I'd recommend anyone has a 90cm - 1m dish as when it rains in Cyprus... you'll keep the signal longer.. You'll be in the hands of another company that 'arranges' to get a subscription from a third Arab country.... OR.. you can 'just' get a 1.8m and get SKY...

mmmmmm - you know nothing of my business, methods, arrangements or, expertise, but I have been waiting for an opportunity to thank you personally. It was you, with your vendetta against all things "Washerman" that motivated me to diversify into the TV business 12 months ago and I might add, who has motivated me into ordering 200 x 1.8m offset satellite dishes which have just arrived in Istanbul. These will be available for installation very soon along with the other relevant equipment I would like to thank you personally for the success and money that you have brought to my household. Please carry on critisizing everything that I do because it motivates me even more. Thank you Washerman

Why doesnt some one who has a good service and reception from dopi tv start a thread and we can all see if the size of it ranks with the other really long lists like the italian book of war heroes, american salads, the french book of manners and the british paliaments book of frugal politicians and worthwhile quango's.

Showtime no longer has rights to premiership football... The options left are SkyItalia, Nova, Tring, and abu dubail sport. The latter is only applicable for people with digital receivers. I'd reccomend Nova, its all in English too. SkyItalia was in English but is now in Italian. Sky UK as we al know only show the picked games, where as the services above will show all 38 games for each prem team.

ef. Dopi T.V. I have been using this system for 2 years now. For the last3 months it has been a waste of time and money with virtually continuous SCRAMBLED programs. Had I known it was going to be this bad, I would not have wasted my money.

Some time ago I was criticised for questioning Dopis reliability http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/36981.asp Since that time there have been numerous complaints. Where is Dopiweb now? The MMMMMMMMMz has been warning us all about it and has probably even been banned for doing so at times yet there still seem to be folks willing to part with 12 months subs up front, DON'T is my advice.

i think the writing is on the wall, thank you honest dopi user who have swallowed your pride and confirmed you have been sold a pup i hope to arrive soon and have looked into lots of tv solutions and have chosen 1.8 iceman with a hint of irish. Thanks to your feedback especially since June and i would rather boil my head in oil than put money over the counter to them other boys. Sometimes i really have been suprised that more people haven't said they would not proceed with dopi after the breakdown in services that they have experienced maybe a case of sticking with what you know. Anyroad what do i know i am notthereyet so know nowt good luck to you dopi users seems to me that they are pretty unreliable at the moment.

| re 19 Washerman Suggest you take 'chill pills' and re-read msg 18 - I refer my post to existing Dopi users and their options - any negativity' towards your good-self is only that which YOU 'perceive' ... >>It was you, with your vendetta against all things "Washerman" that motivated me to diversify into the TV business 12 months ago and I might add, who has motivated me into ordering 200 x 1.8m offset satellite dishes which have just arrived in Istanbul. | Dear Paul, I really don't take pleasure in reading this - I KNEW what would happen - and was told by certain folks who should have known better that I was on a 'campaign' against Dopi ... I DID ask the persons responsible for repeatedly banning me / deleting my warnings if they were prepared to 'pay up' when my predictions came true.... and punters would be asking 'how do we get our money back? ' Let this be a lesson to all... DO NOT pay for a subscription without using your credit card, and unless you KNOW that person - don't pay for a year up front... ANY company that won't let you pay by credit card... WALK AWAY ... |

re 37/39 Hi L/Lad ! >>To Mark ?: Why are you advertising your system on a thread about Dopi TV? << IF you were addressing me - I wasn't aware I HAD 'advertised' 'my system' in this thread... Coffeeman: re 41 >>Please pay for a system that is legal washerman is right dogy tv is out.<< Neither SKY or any Middle East sat TV service are *officially* available in Cyprus... but they aren't going to turn away your money if you subscribe - as long as you don't TELL 'em "I'm in Cyprus" .... The irony is that Nova Cyprus IS a legal service available to Cyprus.. I wonder if they are ready for the 'business opportunity' from 'the occupied areas' ;)

Lancashirelad - me too! (Leigh, Nr. Wigan) - I am just responding to people's questions. It may look like advertising when I answer, but that can't be helped. As a provider with seven year's experience of running a business in the TRNC, some people may think that I am best placed to answer these questions plus, with more than 500 existing customers and still using the same telephone number as when we started our business - people know Gwyn and I and trust us. mmmmmm "Occupied areas" - your view on Cyprus is the same as your knowledge on technology - biased and years out-of-date

Dear Washerman I'll ask you on this thread, too - since you are prevaricating on t'other one - kindly - SPECIFICALLY - tell us one point where I'm 'wrong' or out of date...? How am I 'biased' ? I'm not out to win any popularity awards... 'track records? ' my time in sat comms industry is 3.5 times longer than yours and -if it is relevant - I have a tel / fax number that is as old.. ( it only changed slightly - twice- due to ofcom numbering changes - and a mobile number that is 25 years old.. ! ) BTW: I used them term 'occupied areas' in inverted commas to quote a 'rump' RoC stance... those that REALLY know me realise that I was hardly a political 'hero' for GCs as I continue to support an Annan-like political solution...... Now, how are you 'best placed' to answer when you are a relative 'babe in the wood in the sat biz and are attempting to flog receivers that cost 175 GBP RETAIL for 495GBP ?!

Washerman - I'm not the one being 'personal' - YOU are the one that has told members I'm biased and speaking untruths.. I'm 'hounding' you for SPECIFIC examples.... I suspect you seek 'help' from the mods as my questions are 'uncomfortable' As you are asking folk to shell out 495GBP for a receiver that costs 175GBP to folks in the 'official areas' - can you guarantee that you can supply next years subscription and what will you charge over the rate that folks in the 'official zones' pay ?

I'm bumping this as Washerman's 'silence' is telling.. Perhaps you can explain why you are charging 495 GBP for something that costs 175 GBP in Abu Dhabi ? You could even explain why it costs only 230 GBP in the UK ? ALL you have done is to respond with extremely personal responses and b' all FACTS... So... ex-Dopi clients to be.. IF you are in the market for Abu Dhabi receivers / cards be sure to ask Washerman if he is going to be 1/ more 'realistic' with his prices 2/ accepting credit card payments - you should pay by credit card 3/ guaranteeing that he can source ( at a non rip off price ) and activate the subscription cards NEXT year !

Everyone mmmmmm didn't accept my invitation to email me off board. He has an ulterior motive. The more I ignore his gibberish, the more desperate he becomes to hang onto what's left of his reputation. On this occasion, Google let him down - that's where his snippets of info' come from. He thinks that you don't understand the costs involved for a legit' business to import goods and pay duty and install the product and offer a guarantee. He ignores these things because it blows holes in his latest story. I trade on my reputation of running a customer service based business in TRNC for 7 years. He doesn't like that. He says these things to worry all our existing customers, who are starting to telephone me, looking for re-assurance. I feel sorry for them - the unnecessary worry and heartache that he causes them. He is making an atempt at undermining a proper TRNC business and this board allows it to happen - disgraceful He really is stooping to the lowest levels yet!

AJ, re 51 - this is 'different' - now we have someone profiteering ... Washerman - re 52 WHY would I take this to pm? You have made your play and been 'caught out'.. your response was mostly personal - and unrelated to the topic... I'll ask you AGAIN.. what untruths have I spoken? - the only attempt at a 'counter' was to defend your high prices and tell us incorrect info about subscription methods. I'm not 'undermining' a 'TRNC' biz... I KEEP Telling you that won't 'wash'.. I've got plenty of acquaintances that run 'em.. I'm making sure the members don't get RIPPED OFF.. You said yourself that 'anyone' could install nilesat systems ;) .. Most Dopi clients have the dish ANYWAY IF you check - this thread is about Dopi clients and their alternatives.. as you are hell bent on ripping 'em off I'm going to make sure I find 'em a solution at a FAR better price - delivered to 'TRNC' 'legally'. Do you have a 'problem' with that? !

6XM you say attempting to flog receivers that cost 175 GBP RETAIL for 495GBP ?! what do you expect from a former double glazing salesman ?? how many people have had their equipment changed by their isp in trnc as he was saying was needed when he ran the internet club ?? none that was another scam of his. your technical knowledge has been proved spot on 6xm and has stood the test of time, despite the predictions and comments t was flawed full credit to you.

For what it's worth, if I was looking for good advice on TV reception, quality, VFM etc. the first person I would ask is mmmmmm. He has suffered much unjustified abuse on this forum over the years as well as being banned for simply telling the truth as he knows it. Unfortunately for his detractors but fortunate for those who want the advice, truth, warts & all on the subject of TV reception, he has been proved right, time & again. Honesty & good advice are rare commodities in the TRNC and should be applauded not vilified.

Washer I think you should respond properly to MMMMMMs request for clarification because I can't see it either. If you are going to make allegations it would be good if you could substantiate them. I would be curious to know what systems you install as may be considering something different ourselves so if you have a link could you post it please. That said seeing a business brawling in such a way is not very endearing but we try to keep an open mind.

islandgirl - do I have the right to defend myself and my legitimate business in the TRNC? - I do. I do not chose to "brawl in public" as you put it, but I am forced to. I also have the right to ignore mmmmmm I have taken the time to post some facts on the other thread - you may want to read them. As for prices, you will have to be more specific as to your needs, but have alook at http://www.satellitecyprus.com

Dear Washerman, you stated clearly that I was speaking untruths - I merely asked you to point out ONE single point that wasn't factually correct.. 'interesting' the you would claim to be 'ignoring' me... BTW : Is it not legitimate for legit biz in a third country to supply goods to 'TRNC' ? ;)

Iam not getting into any slanging matches. It does seem to me that 6m has some real deap rooted problems with anyone except iceman, who supplies systems in the TRNC. Let me give him the benefit of any doubt, he says he does it to notify people of any rip offs and seems to be our knight in shining armour.I will be the first to say he warned us correctly about illegal systems. But what business is it of his to question people who try to make a living in the TRNC when he does not even live here!!! There must be an alterer motive, and i for one am not bothered anyway. All this crap we are reading on here against satellitecyprus is getting very personal and out of order! But at the end of the day surely it is down to the individual what they buy,you pays ya money and take your chances. It seems Paul has to reply for the sake of business&family, and rightly so. Why cant someone have a good idea(legal system),and just get on with it. Yes i have it,very happy, great viewing,

Dear Bamboo Thanks for responding... 1/ I am not aware of my posts being personal - in that I discussed a suppliers family / friends / relationships... if so could you please point it out ?! 2/ I KEEP asking how someone can justify a supply only price that is 3 times the price in a supermarket in UAE - Washerman has told us patent nonsense about the VERY same kit/ cards that are available from other suppliers for MUCH less.. and he has alluded to being an 'official dealer' - he has failed to address those points. 3 / I note you didn't bother to to explain why your posts here predominate in recommendations for the Adu Dhabi system - as supplied by 'your man' ! 4/ YES - I recommend Iceman - as I have explained MANY times - I have used him to fix problem jobs in the 'rump' RoC and there s NO financial connection - other than that - just respect. Anyone that suggests different is simply WRONG.. As of yesterday I will now supply AD solutions - to ensure a competit

(cont ) - to ensure a competitive price. Up until yesterday I told folk how to get UK TV reliably and as close to free as possible .... I lived in CY for eight years and know what it is like to be an ex-pat I'm not sure what relevance 'TRNC' ( or where I live ) has to this equation - a sat receiver is a box and it should be a relative doddle for potential ex-Dopi clients to self-install. I only got 'involved' in this because Washerman says it can't be done... well ...WATCH ME ;) I've used my inside knowledge of sat and comms to hopefully protect fellow Brits/ Irish folk from being cheated or ripped off and I would have been living in the north - where I have many friends - if the GCs had voted YES in 2004 .. If my living in the UK means I ( or any other company ) can give them what they want - for closer to the price they can buy IN the UK / UAE.. most folk are going to go for the best deal..

Washerman - re msg 77 - an oft repeated lie does not the truth make.. As you KNOW the cost of SKY HD world is 732GBP alone - it is clear arithmetic is not your strong point ! >>No income tax, no VAT, no money back, no guarantee - Look at the photo - I'd swear its 'Del boy'<< Now, I KNOW you want the thread closed... !

6m if you are going to supply these systems just get on with it!!! Why do you have to keep going on with all this. As the advert says "JUST DO IT" By the way Paul is not "my man",just someone who has come up with what is needed within my home. If you had supplied these systems before then you may have had MY money in your bank account, but you havent so i went to someone who did. Stop all this bickering and "JUST DO IT". Let satellitecyprus do thier job and you do yours! End of!! from me.

re msg 80 >>mmmmmm - you keep saying this, but you do not address my legitimate questions - is 326% a justifiable profit margin?<< As you 'persist' stupidity - I will give you an arithmetic lesson 399 + 732 = 1131 - so if I am making 326 % - I'd be charging 3687 GBP.. ) Bamboo - as I have now said I will offer said system - point humbly accepted ...

Here's the post from the other thread: Profit margins - cost of HD receiver £130 - http://www.ciao.co.uk/SKY_SKY_HD_BOX__6492692 - add cost of viewing card @ £20 = £150 cost of HD receiver on one of your 20+ web sites inc. delivery@ £90 = £489.00 - http://skycards.us/HD.html = 326% profit Seems like you have had quite a few business ideas that must have failed along the way - what's good for the goose is good for the gander!

The cost of an HD receiver is 399GBP - try buying a REAL unsubsidised one.. Viewing cards - subscription ones - are FREE .. they belong to SKY ! In the UK I can get you a SKY HD for nought - if you take an HD subscription for a year- and a p phone line and ADSL from SKY and plug the HD receiver into the phone line.. but try adding a second HD box ... Washerman - I KNOW... I'm not selling dodgy kit.... I'm not suggesting YOU are... only that you are no 'official dealer' and you are charging 3 times retail Very simple maths for you.. if I was really making 326% gross margin I'd be charging 1300 for a receiver This is a VERY competitive 'game' - 'we' are lucky to make 25% .. AGAIN.. WHY are used HD units that are 3+ years old selling for close to 200 GBP... ? BTW: I'm grateful for your interest in how I earn a crust.. but I'd concentrate on your pricing model before being 'creative' with mine.. !

Sorry mmmmmm - you rely upon people not checking out your maths and to be honest, people aren't that bothered, but I am. Your maths is loaded! I am not a box shifter - you are so, don't compare my margins with yours. Before, you decided to cross swords, I wonder whether you considered the worse thing that could happen. I scrutinise your costs the same way that you scrutinised mine and it seems, that you don't like it! Subsidised - unsubsidised - tomato - tomatoes

What you don't realise mmmmmm is that this thread and the other has shot a hole in both our credibility ratings, but then, you are not bothered because this is not your Country of residence, but it is mine and that is why I persist and will persist.

Washerman - specifics.. if you advertise something for 495GBP - plus delivery - you are JUST that ...a box-shifter.. you ain't offering to install for that Now, as your 'box' is no difference to 'mine' - at nearly 200 GBP more.. I'd expect you to try and claim some mythical value ! ........

Look at the web site and tell everyone the price that we install the system for and see whether the difference less than what you charge for delivery alone. mmmmmm - how have you ever made it this far?

Enough is enough. Yet another thread turned into a personal/business vendetta. That makes 5 threads so far. I would suggest mmmmmm and Washerman take their argument off board. This thread is now closed and any other thread that continues this argument will be closed and the protagonists will be banned.
