Would like to have some idea as to how much we should be paying our Pakistan gardener for three hours work. He seems to get through the work very quickly and often finishes early and goes.

Advise on hourly rates and any recommendations for a reliable worker would be appreciated.

They do work very quickly and if all the work is done to satisfaction why worry. We pay 10TL an hour which we think is cheap at the price. Friends of ours pay 60TL a month.

Hi Tilly

I dont think theres any real rule of thumb on this but I tend to agree with Panchocat, if they are doing a good job why worry, but if not well thats a different story, for your information £5 an hour is usual, some take 10tl

Hope this is helpful

A

The length of time he will take depends on, whether he just pulls the weeds out and leaves the roots then scratches the soil about,or does it properly

Then why have him for 3 hours if he can do the work in less.. If you have no complaints about the work he's doing then re-negotiate. Most "Pakistan" gardeners have more than 1 job anyway. If the going rate is as above in message 2 thats about £4.00 hour. If you want to keep him on the premises until his 3 hours are up then find him something else to do or offer him some food instead of doing the last complete hour.

Speak to your "Pakistan" gardener instead of insinuating he is unreliable when he clearly is not just efficient by the sounds of it.

Hi Tilly

I have the most brilliant TC Gardener who charges £5 per hour. and is very reliable. He and his team are very pleasant and helpful and whether I am here in TRNC or in Uk they always look after the garden properly.

msg. 1

tilly how often do you have the gardener?

Maybe he is visiting weekly & unless you have a very large or very formal garden this really isn't necessary. We have 1 donum & a lot of hedging to cut & we have our Pakistani gardener once every 4 weeks. He does 7.5 hrs for £30. He's an excellent worker & we've had him for 3 years now. He never lets us down. Sometimes he does an extra day usually in portions of 2 or 3 hrs, maybe twice a year in the spring after the winter rains & again in late summer to cut the hedges which take more than 1 day.

Thank you for all your helpful replies. I personally have no problem with the gardener. I think he is a good worker, keeping the communual area clean and tidy. He is only employed to keep the communual area swept and weed free although others use him when not here. Unfortunatly not everyone is happy and some dont want to pay for his services.

I think this is a problem that happens in developments with shared facilities.

Hi Tilly, re message 9 if some of them do not want to pay let them take their turn keeping the communual areas clean. Working in the heat we have here I think £5 per hour is cheap, hope somebody gives him food and something to drink.
