We have recently moved into an apartment in Alsancak, we visited the Belediyesi to try and sort out paying our bills for water, council tax etc. i have now made 5 or more visits trying to sort out what we should pay and how often. I am told that water is payable monthly, our builder had not paid the bill for 4 months, so I settled the bill to avoid getting cut off, our bill was for 14 ton of water and cost us 13.61ytl, very reasonable we thought. Then I was told that we have another 2 bills to pay one covers street lighting, rubbish collection and mosquitoe spraying, this bill is about 153ytl, I am told this covers one year from April1st to March 31st. When I asked about the bill for property tax I was told the bill would be sent to us as the Belediyesi had not yet calculated how much our bill would be but that it is based on how big our apartment is. Can anybody tell me, are the amounts about right that we have been charged and does anyone have any idea how much the property tax is in Alsancak.

I think it sounds about right although councils do vary , however property tax should be paid by deed owner unless it has been put into youre name by youre builder .

Two ways to looking at this do you leave property tax to be paid by the deed owner ?

Or do you choose to pay the property tax voluntary even though it is not on youre name , on account that in the future you have proof etc that you have paid so there is no comeback re penalties of non payment of tax , also evidence of payment may go in youre favour if there were any argy bargy on who owns property . Hope this helps .

You can now pay the Alsancak water rates at the Turk Bank in Alsancak.

you will have to pay council tax when you want to get your deeds. i'm sure we had to pay from when we moved in to the house, i'm sure they take the date of contract as that date.
