Don't know, but would have thought the first point was Limassol! Surely there are removal companies, or lorries for hire over there. Or ask Dolphin Movers here if they know of anyone.

Mark and Nicky, I would definitely recommend using a removals company from the North... they won't have an axe to grind.. Workers for a south based company might take their dissatisfaction with the move being made out on your goods... Olaytrans would be my best recommendation for such a move based on the experiences of many folk (not us - unfortunately) http://www.shipping-international.com/companies/olaytrans-ltd.html

Groucho ! re msg 4 PLE-ase... There are shipping cos in Limas(s)ol that specialise in moving forces personnel - and many GCs would like the UK out but that doesn't mean the workers deliberately damage / nick stuff.. I know of a G.Cypriot in Limassol that has a BIG lorry that moves people.. I'm sure he would at least take your stuff to the Green Line ... as long as you don't call it a 'border' and he WOULD explain that the only 'border' in Cyprus is the Med ;) Seriously, he has TC friends and he moved BIG dishes and my furniture for me and many of my acquaintances ! I have sent him a txt msg and I'll quietly ask if he could do it..

Groucho I moved from the South to the North a couple of years ago and used a Limassol based company who provided an excellent service. They were the only company that would move us to the North. When I asked other companies why they would not provide the service, their reasons had nothing to do with the 'ethnic' divide but were based on the ridiculous bureaucracy and the financial requirement to 'grease' too many palms on the North side to make a move go smoothly. Business is business whether you are a TC or GC and I am sure that most would be happy to trade across the Green Line if the 'powers that be' (on both sides) didn't make it so difficult. Stereotypical assumptions like yours in message 4 do nothing to help matters. Just my opinion Paul

Well Paul, tell them who the company were... rather than taking issue with my suggestion... that way they can avail themselves of their services and they will no doubt be happy with the service you recommend... being the only one who will do it... Part of my reasoning, re one from the north is that as intimated in your post, they will know how to avoid all the palm-greasing... Maybe they should get a quote from both and see who is best value... However if the quotes are the same I'd still recommend a North-based company as if there are any comebacks they won't be dealing with claim back across the border (cue Mark) and it also supports TRNC-based business. Which is a good thing...

Groucho It wasn't your suggestion that I took issue with, I fully understand the requirement to support TRNC businesses. My issue was your insinuation that just because people live on the other side of the divide, they might have an 'axe to grind' and would mistreat someones property. Anyway, for the record, the company I used were Columbia movers. Not cheap but an extremely well known and professional company and responsible for 'moving' most, if not all service families between UK and Cyprus. http://www.columbiamovers.com.cy/article.php?id=50 Paul

Hi Groucho You point is valid.. really.. I have spoken with MY guy and he is willing to do it - HE needs to check if he can cross - or if the stuff will need to be reloaded on another lorry - at the Green Line- but in principle no problem.. Re 'trust'.. he moved me twice and I recommended him to other people who were still talking to be afterwards !

In my expereince it is easier to use trucks from the south because GCs will use any excuse to block trucks crossing south from the north.
