Not only do we now have a Mardos at Esentepe we also now have a supermarket opening just next door . That means 2 new supermarkets servicing Esentepe. New Mardos is situated on the main road coming from Girne way you will find it on your left past the golf course heading towards Esentepe . We tried the chocolate pancakes with icecream and lovely coffees, sooooooooooo nice .

Alsancakkack, There is absolutely nothing wrong with the east of Girne especially Esentepe. It is quieter and more beautiful than the west, plus it doesn't have so many bars, restaurants with signs jumping out at you like Blackpool. I hate the built up over developed west and avoid it like the plague. We looked at the west before we bought decided the east was definitely for us, every one to their own. If you like the west fine, stay there but please don't keep making disparaging remarks over owners who choose to live in the east. The butlers wife

The Butlers Wife Sorry If I have upset you but I was just voicing my opinion. To me the East of Girne is just one big housing estate and from what I understand it will develop even more with the influx of Russian buyers. So enjoy it while you can. AJ

No it is not AJ, the East side of Girne from Girne to the Golf club is lovely, what you think of the new developments after that is your own issue, Ozankoy and Catalkoy are very nice and in my opinion every bit as good as Lapta, Alsancak etc if not better.

If we are all totally honest, the whole of cyprus is a unfinished building site. I really dont know 1 place where everything has been totally finished to a satisfactory level.

Pugwash Do not get me wrong I have no problem with the villages out East as I have been many times but the housing estates that are built/being built do not do the area any favours. I am only willing to travel as far as Algadi beach and then onwards the scenery does nothing for me. But it is good you are all getting a Mardos and at least two supermarkets. Don't forget to make sure the supermarkets stock up on all of your English foods. AJ

Sienna Re message 49: 'Respect others opinions AJ stick to you r own rules )))) or is there as usual one rule for you another for all us others' You are having a laugh. I have always respected other posters opinions and I hope others respect mine and I should have the same rights as other members to post my feelings/thoughts about any subject providing I keep within the board rules and by the way they are not my rules, they are the rules laid down by the board owner. I hope that clears up the obvious misunderstanding that you have. AJ

We had Mardos before the West actually AJ, and I do not want UK "style" supermarkets just good local produce which is excellent and I enjoy so much, I do agree with you about the "estates" further East they are not well planned or located IMO.

We have bought a house in Bahçeli because we did not like the urban sprawl with the neon lights which goes on for miles to the east of Girne. I do not understand why there is so much criticism of the east. I accept that some areas are blighted by unfinished developments but at least at some stage these will be finished whilst the neon lights of the west will continue to glow.

Re message 18 and not driving any further than Alagadi, well if you drive thru' Esentepe Village or up to and thru' Bahcelli, or Tatlisu, etc, etc, etc, I absolutely dare ANYONE to say 'the scenery does nothing for me'!!!

Flutterby I suggest you read my posting again. I have no problem with the villages and I love the village way of life it is just unfortunate that there is this massive urban sprawl along the coast and the majority of expats, British/Russian or otherwise for some unknown reason want to live there. Just my thoughts. AJ

Tom Thank you for your assessment of me but unfortunately I cannot make an assessment of you because I have not met you but I am sure that with your attitude and use of swear words that if we did meet then we would probably not see eye to eye if you know what I mean. I am not quite sure why Brits/Brit expats have so much anger but watching Sky News today I am beginning to understand. Take care and chill out. You will dig yourself into an early grave.

the butlers wife Do not worry about it, it is the usual posters causing problems. I posted my comments about the East of Girne and always will be willing to discuss my thoughts with like minded intelligent posters but it appears as though there are not many of those around. Perhaps Cyprus44 should conduct an intelligence test for new members but there again that would cut down the membership considerably. Take care AJ
