The head of the Vatican bank is being investigated on suspicion of money laundering, Italian law enforcement officials said on Tuesday, a bad omen for the Catholic Church as it struggles to overcome the scandal of clergy sexual abuse.

Italian authorities said that besides bank chairman Ettore Gotti Tedeschi, chief executive Paolo Cipriani was also a target of the probe. And Italian prosecutors said they have seized $30 million in Vatican assets held in another Italian bank, Credito Artigiano.

The vatican has always been in bed with the italian mafia.

Even in the spoof godfather movies, they show a scene in i think the last of them movies, where the vatican is involved.

The vatican must do as its told

The catholic church is corrupt in its core and always will be, children run around with no shoes while their parents donate money to this paedophilic criminal organisation....they only care for money and vunerable children.

Why is it we are constantly castigated for discussing items of interest (to us) from world news... it's reported on the BBC, so why is it some people just can't stand these things being talked about here... beats me...

Is this a forum or an "all things lovely in the TRNC" chat room?

If it's the latter I give it about a week...

I guess Groucho its because of their inability to discuss anything not involving them, or whats happening in Eastenders or Corrie. Anything that makes them think is seen as a major threat to their mundane lives.

Nostradamus made a prediction that some have interpreted as meaning the end of the Catholic church will occur around this time in history. If revelations continue to surface about past abuses and cover-ups, this might come true. Religion has a lot to answer for imho.

It's not the religion but the church structures that man has created that provide the means and the attraction for men with less than pure motives... The main tenets of the religion are fine, with some notable exceptions where dubious interpretation of Christ's teachings means peoples health is put unnecessarily at risk...

In particular :-

condoms

contraception

celibacy

The only thing wrong with religion is man...

Catholicism as a faith is much larger then the pope, or priests or alter boys and will be around and outlive the current crises it faces.

I criticise religion as an exclusive way of viewing a universal truth (or not as you may or may not believe). I agree that faith is a wonderful thing and practising faith is too. My problem is with the concept of any religion's intolerance of other ideas. Anyone out there who is religious, peaceful and tolerant of all other points of view, hats off to you!
