Ok guys, ı am in the process of building a house, steel framed construction, the walls will be timber, plaster boards, american siding panels and fully insulated through the walls and ceiling. about time someone started to build sensable buildings its like the propertys back home in Australia. The building materials are shit in this country and ı still cant understand how can you build a house out of cement. My building will start in the next couple of weeks anyone intersted i will be posting pics on my facebook, ı can also get the builder to give quotes and great way for extentions. serks11@hotmail.com

Very interesting and looking forward to following your progress. How did you get on with planning permission? They don't like anything "new" here and they often quote earthquake resistance as a condition.

the building materials (steel) are brought over from turkey which all necessary tests have been done for the standards in TRNC for earthquakes. I currently work for a construction company myself as a sales and marketing manager ı am aware of all standards and procedures that must be meet. I will never build a house out of the materials that is currently been used ı am sorry to say.

| @ vaughan: as long you build bungalow type you nearly can do what you want as long the statics are ok. to my opinion a reinforced concret shell is mandatory. it might changed. @ ismet: i make a bet that the "civil engeneering part" is not ready. its never ready. @ berkeh: nonono. the materials are shit as well. @ yorgozlu: it depends whether they offer it with electricity and so on. but around 50% minimum. @ serks: the materials are important, yes, but thats not all. the point is: how you feel when you live in it and can you afford to pay the heating and cooling costs? many homeowners in this country cannot!! insulated? nice, but "how much"and "how" ? what are the "heat losses" of your building? (you can learn from your "civil engeneering calculations, see Ismets request", please report for us in kW per squaremeter per year). just a small hint which MUSIN M may like.... | serks/msg 1: Good on ya for what you're doing, mate - but why the Hell have you chosen TRNC in preference to Oz? What in Cyprus they call 'houses/villas', I call 'concrete tents' - hastily shoved up by dump it and run cowboys. Won't you be shovelling [bureaucratic] peas with a pitchfork here? Over home you'd have nil probs! |

msg 19... iam also still waiting for my questions (msg 15), and i most probably will not get one, as they are "not answerable" for him. this is just another approach of "someone who has an idea of how to make it better". but "no answer" means probably: the house just is ready on "autocad", but neither energetically planned, nor "real features", nor nothing and nobody has a clue whether this house will be any better then all these "concrete tents". just to use "....timber, plaster boards, american siding panels..." does not make an "ecohouse", especially when some of the mats might be full of chemicals? "over home" he would have many many more problems...

Our favourite Australian bard croons about another keen, young, 'would be' builder - but sensitive souls should be warned that this song is definitely 'out of the politically correct zone'! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iGoMTFqsX0
