SOMETHING WRONG!

Under the new prices for electric in North Cyprus, 587 units cost at todays rate 108GBP.

In UK the current price for 587 units is 84GBP.

The current minimum wage in North Cyprus is around 432GBP a month

The current minimum wage in UK is around 957GBP a month.

It is said people in UK are struggling to pay their electric bills, so how on earth are people in North Cyprus able to pay!!!

Its the winter months that will be the hardest. During the summer months you can generally get by without using too much electricity by living outside (just don't use the air con) but its still very expensive. There'll be a rise in the sales of candles and hurricane lamps soon so stock up before the shortage.

Yes, AC will be out of question in winter unless one wins the Euro Lotto. And for candles and hurricane lamps getting popular, i am sure they are used to it with so many electric cuts in the past.

I do wonder if people buying property here, ever look into these things or just blindly buy saying, "Wow, look at the views and such friendly people" !!!!!

Does anyone think that there is a hidden agenda behind the price rises over the last 3 years in N. Cyprus, more especially seen this year ?

Are you sure that the TC's are paying the same utility rates - we know that there are diffrent tiers for water prices - could this be the same for electric

makes you wonder does it not ?

Indian , we looked at all aspects of buying here 5 years ago , and utility bills were low then , it only the last 12 months that utility bills have gone really expensive , but i think now people will start realize TRNC is not a cheap place to live anymore , as for living elsewhere in the world if you want to run expensive comodities , there is no where really cheap anymore . But we do have the added bonus of friendly locals THE weather and the fab view here in the TRNC .

How on earth could anyone foresee, find out, or believe even if told, electric would triple in price.

Thro sites like this people are now very wary of purchasing in trnc, only thro advice from people who have already gone thro the process, and can warn about lack of specific performance law, deeds, etc. However nobody has a crystal ball, and I think everybody has been caught out and surprised by latest price and tax rises.

I think very few people purchase now without checking web sites first.

I asked in another post if anyone has solar panels, or has anyone priced them ? I know people using them in the UK and they turn the electricity meter backwards, legally I may add, so I wondered if anyone inTRNC has them or tried them ?

the reason our bills are so high is that we are paying for the non payers. found our neighbours electric bill outside our house. they owe more than 7,000ytl. i wonder when kibtec will cut them off?

They wont! When I bought my old resale property I ended up paying the electric bill for the previous local owners which was over £1200. When I asked Kibtek why they hadn't cut them off, they said that they didn't like to because it is rude and offends! They obviously didn't feel it was rude to expect me to pay someone else bill though!!

Do you think KIBTEK are ripping people off? Do the current prices reflect the general balance of the economy in TRNC?

How about this: A rumour or truth!

Kibtek employees and their relatives don't pay electric bills...ever!

I bet there's some truth in it!

There can't be a difference in the way Kibtek treats foreigners surely? That would be blatantly racist. In NC surely not?

From what I can understand if you dont pay your bill after the second month Kibtek remove your fuse and take it away, which in theory means you have to pay your bill to get reconnected. In practice what sometimes happens is the non payer removes someone elses fuse (normally from a complex where there are a lot of holiday homes) and continues using electricity as normal. The next month the new fuse is removed by Kibtek, but the devious non payer then takes the next fuse in the street cabinet. This continues until............you tell me.

It came to my notice when I went to pay my transfer of electric meter to my

name at Kibtek, that the charge had risen from 540ytl to 740 ytl (It was 176 ytl

last year). I was outraged, and I had not brought enough money. A man who was sitting in the office spoke in English to me and told me that if I had a Turkish Cypriot guarantor it would only cost me 250 ytl. I replied that maybe I

would have a friend who could do this. Now this friend & ex-colleague has offered to guarantee me & will go down with me to Kibtek when we are both

there. Maybe others do not know this & may be in a position to be guranteed.

Regarding Kibtek employees getting free leccy this was certainly the case a few years ago, there was one guy who left Kibtek and had a restaurant in Karmi who was still getting it for nowt two years after he left.

You government guys who read these posts need to take heed. It is only a few TC’s that get free electric the rest, along with us so called foreigners, are getting very pxxxssed off with all these increases. Get off your butts and collect the money owing, whether it is electric or builders, or you will be out before the end of the year.

PS.

We may not have the vote, but we all have a lot of TC’s friends. Do you think that we foreigners who live here hold no influence at all?

The fact that we are all paying for the non payers is true...

Electricity board employees did not pay a bill until a few years ago but new they do..The Army was also not paying till few years ago but now they do..

Its the official state buildings not paying nowadays and with the price of AC units going down they have installed AC's everywhere..

None of the government offices or municipalities are paying any electric bills!!!

And the argument continues, forever.....end of the day, people are being ripped off with ridiculous prices. I wish there is a quicker solution to this island and this part of the island becomes legal. Then the people in the authority will have the shock of their lives when EU tells them to do the legal things in a legal way.

Hope and pray, cheers

Telling someone you were involved in property in TRNC will soon become like telling someone you were taken in by a Nigerian money transfer deal to help the widow of the ex oil minister by allowing your bank details to be used,in return f

Embarassed to be so gullible in each case.

As regards the EU, one major problem would be anti discrimination legislation, the TRNC economy would really suffer if that were to happen.

Sorry Pipie,I think you are wrong. Its the same the world over, the rip off merchants have their luggage packed and are ready to leave. Its the ordinary people who have to stay that will pay.

I feel sorry for the british ones wanted by UK police,as looks like pretty soon, regardless of when or if the north joins the south, they will have look round for another safe haven. I dont think there are many places left that dont have extradiction, that one would want to go to.
