Is this a sign of the times in the south? Could such a situation happen here?

For those who think the grass may be greener south of the border, here is some info on how our GC lawyers get upto.

"One or two banks here charge more mortgage interest to EU citizens than to Cypriots Maybe they would also like to know that many buyers living in the UK received letters at their UK homes from developers and banks in Cyprus who granted them mortgages to purchase property on the Island.

These letters warn that legal action will be taken against them in the UK courts if they fail to maintain their mortgage repayments. Some people who have received these warning letters were totally unaware that they even had a mortgage; all are very concerned of the threat of losing their homes!

It appears that lawyers (allegedly) acting on their behalf arranged mortgages after buyers had signed Power of Attorney documents that gave their lawyer very wide ranging powers to do just about anything on their behalf (including taking out mortgages they did not want, ask for, or need)

Motto....Trust NO-ONE.

Builders or solicitors. Our builder...3 years on still hasn't completed remedial nor contactual work.

Our solicitor after a couple of thousand pounds advised us that he had also been ripped off by a builder.

What chance does a Brit have of getting satisfaction? A big fat zero.
