Does anyone what a Greek Cypriot born in the north of the island but has lived in the uk for 40 years would have to do about retiring back there. I dont think he would be able to buy property, but maybe I'm wrong. Also would he be able to get residency or have to leave the country every 30 or 90 days as a temporary visitor? Thanks for your help in this matter. James.

James, First of all, this is Cyprus, north or south does not matter. You will never get a straight answer from the authorities. They make up their decisions and the rules as they go along. You can come to north Cyprus through Ercan or from the south, no problem despite the rules, I think you can stay over here as long as you like. If you are in a position to claim for any land in the north, you should apply to the Compensation Board. The initial applications are getting a good deal but as the applications multiply the system may collapse. Fortunately the Papadop government are against such applications, hence the numbers are limited at the moment, so you stand a good chance. I can help you with the application if you are interested. As a Greek Cypriot you may not be allowed to buy any property here but where there is a will, there is a way. Good luck. ismet

Ismet It sounds like you may have some knowledge of the compensation board. I'm just curious, Is it working? What would cause it to collapse, would that be the inability (infrastructure) to deal with a large numbers of claims, lack of funds to payout or is it something else?
