Forums offer a premise of open and free discussion where members can hold conversations, ask questions, offer advice....etc Recently I've found Cyprus 44 has begun to adopt a tone reminiscent to George Orwell's 1984 "How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time...every movement scrutinized." The thought police here being some MODS. Whilst members are free to offer good and bad comments on certain businesses, it has become apparent others CANNOT be touched. This morning a member posted about Sunny Lane, yet one post was removed and the other closed. We have a lot of members on here who all have children and Such posts are very relevant for all members to gauge opinion on the school. Earlier in the summer several posts were done congratulating the school, a few on exam results and a few on the football and they remained, yet it seems YOU CANT BE CRITICAL..

Good luck Goonerboy, we all enjoy this board in our various ways, but you have more chance of being pecked by a DODO than making sense of it.

Goonerboy You can be critical if you want but the message that was deleted contained unsubstantiated personal comments about an individuals private life. It was a rant, not a thought out critique. Don't believe in conspiracy theories all the time Harold

Have to agree with Harold there, even on NCFP, with a much more lax attitude towards naming and shaming, we would expect any accusations to be substantiated. In the case of Talat Kurstat law firm's out-of-date ISO9001 certificate we only published when we had checked the evidence. Cyprus44 allowed the allegations to be published here and, for me, that's evidence enough that they do not censor unnecessarily.

There is quite often no reason given....Does that mean they are yet to decide why they do not like it? At the end of the day....this is just the tinterweb...........so who cares? The sun is still shining and I will be off for lunch at Salamis with my lovely wife soon. 44 will still be there for my amusement later.

So complaints about bars/restaurants should not be allowed if they are unsubstantiated?

"So complaints about bars/restaurants should not be allowed if they are unsubstantiated?" You are slowly catching on. Though to be fair there are some places you are allowed to attack and some you dare not touch.

I read the post about the British Academy and have to agree that the post was more of a rant directed towards the owners rather than a constructive debate about the services provided (or not) by the school. I don't suppose the fact that the school is a paying advertiser on the forum had anything to do with the decision to close the thread. Cynical, me ??? Never !!! Paul

Glyn Don't you mean: Some people many attack all places all of the time even if unsubstantiated Some people may attack no places at all ever even if substantiated Some people may attack some of the places some of the time if randomly substationated/unsubstantiated

Hi all good morning Although only spending about a third of the year in NC I probably visit C44 most days I am in the UK. In general I think the management of the various postings is about right. There are times when skirmishes between factions develop into pointless and childlike name calling, on these occasions I really do wish the administrators call a halt. regards Doug

I closed the two threads and deleted one and banned the poster for one week. Of course we can write and complain and air our views but when you start three different threads all about the same thing and it is obvious that its a personal vendetta against somebody or institution well beyond well meaning comment, then the right thing to do is to close it and give the perpetrator a cooling time by banning him for a week C44 should not be the place for unchecked libels and slanders. If we want to keep this board as it should be, then we all ahve to assume responsibility and not complain about moderation and lack of moderation quite too often. so we have to moderate in "moderation" and I believe this is what we have been doing. ismet

Yes freedom of speech is restricted. You have to take into account that the website owner is legally liable for his sites contents. Read the rules, then its up to you if you join and post or not. But why join and then moan about it?

I totally agree with Elko's decision to close the threads this morning. This person has only posted nasty comments on the school since they joined, they have made no effort to join in other threads, comment, or offer advise. Chris

trouble is a few on here just carry on holding grudges and they then come on here moaning and groaning about posters. Almost trying to start childish vendettas. This forum is for every ones usage, some you like some you dont, thats life.. But some make it their business to stalk others on all forums, now that is a serious disposition... Some come on here to just moan that nobody uses their cafe, taxi or whatever, and then dont like it if explained why nobody uses their premesis, thats this forum, some accuse others of multible posting names, why is that a problem, nobody is perfect, 44 has become a disjointed forum of those that cant and those that think they can, the latter to the detrement of 44,.....

In the time I have been posting on here I have come to know that if you make a point and the loudmouths agree with it you are fine, but if they do no agree the usual Essex-type slanging match ensues and you are vilified and made to feel the lowest of the low. The culprits know who they are! Just my personal opinion.
