Is there a premium rate of import duty on a diesel car as opposed to a petrol one? Thought I had read that there was but perhaps someone can confirm current rules?

TRNC is flooded with unsold Jap/Singapore one previous owner imports! Why give yourself the hassle of importing yours they give you every type of 'grief' possible at Customs here. If you don't agree to pay the exhorbitant amount of duty they demand, you'll get your car confiscated......I shan't even bother to go on as there's hundreds of postings on this subject.

Am I right in thinking that if a person moves to the TRNC they can take one set of home furniture and one car free of tax into the TRNC?

Once off home furniture is FOC. Or near as damn it. No such thing as a tax free car. Back in 2001, there was a scheme to allow new retired expats arriving from the UK. an opportunity to purchase a new car here, tax free. This was abandoned late 2001/early 2002 & Government greed then took over.
