"FREE FOR TEST PERIOD"

I am a Nethouse customer and would like to know a couple of things

What will it cost after the test?

If loads more people start downloading from BBCi etc will it have a detrimental effect on the service (which though not too bad, can be patchy)

This may be genuine, however, I was thinking of a similar post:

All HSBC (or any other bank) customers, send me your account details and password, PIN numbers and the security code from the back of your credit card, etc, etc. I will then give you free calls at the weekend/an account at Titanic/free beer at Bar 8.8/etc, etc.

Nethouse, I presume you have the email address of every one of your customers. Why not send the English speaking ones the special offer?

I am a Nethouse customer and I will contact the normal helpline number.

Never, NEVER, EVER give out such info !! Don't do it

No responsible company would ask such a thing..

WHY you might be asked for your password eludes me

TOTALLY unprofessional

Call Nethouse - by all means - but (Again) don't email this info.

Navek / HNC

The email address is a nethouse domain - the noc in the address would ASSume "network operations centre"..

If it is a 'scam' , how come the address goes to a nethouse account ?!

Nevertheless.. whether it is a scam or 'unprofessionalism'.. DO NOT send your info - call 'em on the phone number you know.

Hello H & N

Can you please explain to me what you mean by "please LOG IN with an alternative USERNAME and PASSWORD, and inform nethouse on 0392 444 0 555 that you wish to go ahead with the free VPN service"

LOG IN where? I have been on their website and it is in Turkish, so not sure where to LOG IN. I have had similar problems last few days, as a NEW customer, when I thought I was supposed to call you for any internet problems and you have me a troubleshooting number which I wasn't told about. When I called the number they requested password details I didn't even know I had. It might be an idea to give all this info to your customers when they sign up.

Kind regards

Rachel

Hello everyone:

Just to clarify this IS NOT A SCAM.

BUT in the meanwhile, if you do wish to try this free vpn service please email the address on the top of the post, stating:

YOUR NAME

AN ALTERNATIVE USERNAME AND PASSWORD.

Please then drop me an email or phone Nethouse directly on 0392 444 0 555 stating that you wish to try the vpn service.

You will then receive an email back providing you with the necessary information of what to do next.

If you require any other additional information please contact the head office on the above number.

I am with Mr Wilson on this one. They came, fitted the system and left. No account etc to log in to?

"Bernies, with the new motorola canopy device customers at Nethouse are already receiving double the speed they are already paying for."

What is a canopy device? have I got one? should I have one? I am certainly not getting what I paid for, let alone twice the speed!

I still think my questions at message 2 need answering

BTW.. how a VPN is setup depends on the VPN.. Your supplier should give you those settings.. not ask you to visit a generalised site..

example : do you make the network public ? Perversely, the answer is normally YES ! You may be using a wireless network and don't want others you have access !

Hi malsancak

I honestly wasn't inferring that - just that this wasn't the only freebie available. I can't promise to offer mine for free indefinitely, either - but for at least until the new year.. why not ?!

Hi straitasadie,

Ryder Cup 2010: Rain halts Friday fourballs...

he opening morning of the Ryder Cup has been suspended because of appalling conditions at Celtic Manor.

Persistent heavy rain left many parts of the course waterlogged and with no sign of the conditions improving, play was called off at 0943 BST.

Organisers are expected to make a further announcement at 1300 BST.

Anything for free, even if just for a trial period, isn't to be sniffed at and Nethouse must be congratulated on their offer and, just maybe, it may be a permanent freebie, if we are to take anything from the hint in message 29.

The problem in NC, especially this side of the mountain, is that the last mile of our internet connections are nearly always wireless and the wireless links don't carry an infinite amount of bandwidth, although the Motorola Canopy does carry more than some other makes of hardware.

If all or, just the majority of Nethouse' Brit customers take up the offer and use their VPNs to watch UK TV, their wireless bandwidth will soon be used up, especially at busy times of day!!

These things have to be thought through properly, but congrat's to Nethouse on the offer. If anyone is struggling setting up a VPN connection on their PC - we are here to help! Tel: 0533 869 4371

And most important, it works!

go to 'help and support' - type in VPN, and follow the wizard to setting up a new VPN connection using the user name and password supplied by nethouse - call the connection UK VPN

If asked set the type of connection to public

If lots of ppl use the pc and they have different settings make the user name and password set for anybody ..

Well, now we've all got a VPN.

What's the best way to use it, and what can we do, that we couldn't do before?

Any advice will be much appreciated.

I've had a look on the WWW, some want you to download software etc,

some of it seems to be absolute rubbish :-(

Have 1MB at the moment, hope to go up to 2MB when the new Motorola Canopy device is fitted

All info welcome.

Thanks' in advance.

Navek, the new Motorola device (when fitted) doesn't double your speed, it just increases the availability of bandwidth on the wireless link/network.

My goodness, they have given a free VPN to their customers, you don't want free bandwidth as well do you?

You'll be expecting the fitters to come dressed up as Father Christmas next!

Hi Washerman,

It's not often you get something for free in life,

if we get 2 Xmas's this year, I'll be more than happy.

If it just increases the availability of bandwidth on the wireless link/network

that can only be a good thing,

a step in the right direction

Thanks' mmmmmm for all the links.

Dear Newscoop

The browser you use is irrelevant !

a VPN is how you *connect* to the UK.. it is a data tunnel through your which info comes and goes but appears to originate in the UK ..

Hi speedster,

Depending on which system you have, go to...

Windows 7 http://answers.oreilly.com/topic/667-how-to-create-a-vpn-connection-in-windows-7/

Windows Vista https://www.publicvpn.com/support/Vista.php

Windows XP http://www.windowsecurity.com/articles/Configure-VPN-Connection-Windows-XP.html

Hi Deniz1,

Link will only work when VPN is connected.

Each time you switch PC/Laptop on,

you have to connect VPN manually, well I do,

via Icon bottom right of taskbar, next to clock.

Just tried link in message 50, working fine.

Good luck,

HAHA ............ I think someone here is really going to have to explain about bandwidth and shaping.

Ok, so... Bandwidth could be considered to be the speed at which data can travel across a wireless or wired link. If we want to talk about wireless, the link speed at which data can be transfered from 'CLIENT' you to 'ACCESS POINT' nethouse. Whether the 'NEW' Motorola links can transfer data at 105Mb or 105,000Mb from 'CLIENT' to 'ACCESS POINT' doesn't really matter as if you are shaped to 1Mb out onto the internet backbone(as most of you are), your connection will only ever hit 1Mb. You may have a busrt of 3Mb for 2-3 seconds but the it will fall to 1 Mb. So.... even if you have your 300Mbps link at your disposal, your still only getting what you pay'd for. Nothing is for free. I hope you realize that when you clog the links up with all your internet activity because you forgot the your VPN connects automatically, Its your fault the 'ACCESS POINTS' go down and we all go off!

Can someone help a computer 'thickie' please? As I have an internet connection today, I'm trying to sent up a UK VPN. When you have to enter the Internet Address... it says this should be 'the IP address of your organisations remote access server'. Can anyone tell me what this is please? Is it my IP address or is there another that I should use.

How are others getting on with this? Is it working OK for you?

Ref M#20, what about a Mac running OS X 10.6.

I can setup a VPN on my MAC, but I've got 3 different types to choose from:

L2TP over IPSec

PPTP

Cisco IPSec

Then depending which one I chose there are more things to enter than just server, username and pw.

Anyone able to help?

Can anyone help with this please. I'm trying to sent up a UK VPN. When you have to enter the Internet Address... it says this should be 'the IP address of your organisations remote access server'. Can anyone tell me what this is please? Is it my IP address or is there another that I should use.

Many thanks

I'd be interested to know as one user on a wireless ISP had connection issues with mine and I wondered if they were being 'blocked'

Hi,

Does applying for the VPN help you to get You tube. Since 2days ago I am not able to get it via my IP and have had to use http://www.hidemyass.com which is fine and I can add the video clips to my facebook profile but when on facebook can`t access clips when clicking on my profile.

Comments Nethouse please!!!

Hi mmmmmm,

Was watching F1 via

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcone/watchlive/

then tuned into BBC2 for Moto GP.

Is it possible to try your VPN,

if so where do I go to sign in etc?

Or should I email you direct?

Thanks'

Hi Navek

my VPN details are ...

IP/ Hostname : vpnuk.uktvabroad.com

username: Smyth_Mark

please note the upper-case S and M ARE important ..

password : WetJune

DO NOT enter anything in a Domain dialogue box !

That should be it..

If asked if the network connection should be public say YES.. this means you are using it in a public placed and DON'T want to share the data !

My VPN won't allow you to view the F1 forum live, either... Hans is thrashing my slingbox solution to prove it can work in your part of the world.. he is controlling a UK sat receiver - and using a virtual remote to change channels or go 'red button interactive'

Apparently, he can watch BBC1 while his good lady is watching Dutch tv and another slingbox - NO stalling !

BTW if you want to see the F1 forum, it normally appears 24 / 48 hours after the end of the GP on iplayer

Hi Nethouse,

"Free UK VPN ACCOUNT TEST"

Has it stopped being free?

I emailed Nethouse Networks earlier today...

"Every time I switch my VPN on, then try to view a web site,

I get "Web page not available"

Any comments why this is now happening?"

Nethouse answer... "Which vpn are you using?" (why would I complain to Nethouse about another VPN?)

Reply... "I am was trying to use the VPN supplied by Nethouse Networks."

No answer received yet, and still not working :-(

Was thinking about their 50% free offer :-(

Anyone else having Nethouse Networks (only) VPN problems?
