advise given is the box should be locked with a gap to read the meter mine wasnt and the socket was stolen by the men who disconnected me for reasons mentioned on cyprus44 sockets with seal are expensive items and stolen quite often this is strong advise to ensure you padlock the box that houses the meter from the public so I am taking action and hope you all have already

Happened to us, too....a house down the road had been 'cut-off' for non-payment so workmen stole our socket to do work in there! a padlocked meter-box can still be read but the socket is safe

yep the main fuse you pull out has a seal on it if they disconnect you they are supposed to leave the main fuse on top of where it was lodged until they and only they come back to push back in and seal as mine was stolen its back to Girne to tell them to come with new fuse and connect wires properly as they last night had to connect two wires together to get me power they assumed as the item is expensive it is hot property how expensive ? I will let you know Monday they closed till then

They will just break in and still steal it. It happens at least twice a year at our friends place. Paddlocks don't deter them!

Msg 5 blade "They will just break in and still steal it." I don't agree, after having my fuse 'meddled with' and having a night without power after arriving late from the Airport I got a friend to have me a strong, thick metal box made with perspex window so the meter can be read. This box is actually set into the wall a couple of inches and only the most determined of thieves/vandals would be able to penetrate it (they would surely leave this and go for easier pickings!) I have joked since that it's the most secure bit of the property and I should store my valuables & money in it! It cost me 50 tl to have this done - I suspect it was a case of 'mates rates' but probably wouldn't be much more from any local metal worker. If anyone wants a picture of this box I'd be happy to email it on request. Maggie

unless you need to leave something electric turned on, why not just remove the fuse, we used to do for our friends apartment. When it was in situ it was secured by putting a cable tie on the heavy duty ones, or a metal bracket. In 4 years after the first stealing we never had a problem. Sue

Not a bad idea Sue but arriving late at night after the journey from hell who wants to start groping around in the dark fitting fuses? also I like to leave my fridge freezer on if I'm only away for a couple of weeks. Maggie

is'nt there a seal round the fuse that if broken means you have tempered with electricity, while you were disconnected. Could end up with far more serious implications

secure the fuse , my neighbour e-mailed me to get the villa ready , he is comming out next week , I went to turn the electric on and no power....I opened the outside box to find somebody took the fuse and rammed in a wire 5mm thick this burned out the wires leading to the now missing fuse, we managed to take out the wire and borrow a fuse, I went straight to the electrec company in Gernie payed the fitting charge (60stl) and they came within 6 hrs, briliant service, had it kept running ,who knows what damage could have happened......

The seal broken on the main fuse in your cabinet means nothing, but the seals broken on your actual meter means diffrent.seal top and bottom of the actual meter cover, with glass . Simple answer is.either pay company to look after your electric or set up a standing order. if you do not pay on time, eventually on this small island,it could affect us all. Pay on time or do not moan.
