In this article from his Vanishing Cyprus series, Andreas Chrysafis deplores the environmental and social impact that property developers and government policies are having on the island and its people.

A very well written piece and I believe you could actually say the same about the North ... What do you think?

I agree

A very balanced piece and the problems raised appertain as much to the North as they do to the South.

Unfortunately, money talks and whilst the developers and banks have such strong influence within the respective governments, nothing much will change.

Property developers/builders/estate agents and foreign property buyers and speculators care nothing for the island or its people.

As for golf courses !!?? Why??

Cyprus is already in the process of becoming a desert because of the water problem.

Pipelines from Turkey or desalination plants will not provide a long term solution.

What then??

Just keep filling your pools, washing your cars, watering your nice little gardens and of course the golf courses ....

Korineum Golf Course has it's own de-salination plant and does not use the precious water supply !
