Give it at least 4 weeks before you go to Nicosia,we always try to get there about 7.15am to get names in the book.

The actual residency bit just takes a few minute. However when you arrive, you're given a numbered ticket, so the later you arrive, the longer you have to wait. The doors to the waiting room open at half 7, and people who arrive before that will find there's a list at the door for you to add your name. They start to give out tickets about 8.15, in the order of the list, so it's all quite fair.

To give you an idea, I had an aborted trip last week (my paperwork hadn't arrived from Girne, even though they'd had it for 4 weeks. So don't be in too much of a rush to go to Nicosia.) I arrived just before 7.30, and was number 5 on the list. When numbers were issued at 8.15, there were about 15 on the list, and by the time the office opened, there would have been about 25.

Being of the same breed as Peanuts and hating mornings, I usual go around 11.30a.m. I know there are those who say you are too late, but so far all has been well. The other option is going in the afternoon, as I believe they re-open, but one would have to make other enquiries.

Residency is a big enough hoop to jump through without losing beauty sleep.

But I understand that it can be quite painless with Mondays being the worst day. And certainly give it a fair amount of time for the paper work to get through to Nicosia.

I have been informed very recently that it can take as little as 2 weeks but more likely 3 although I believe it is variable.

I unfortunately do not have the number with me but hopefully someone who has it might post the telephone number for the office on here and you can then call to see if your residency is ready and save yourself the worry of driving there for no reason.

Could somebody who has the office number be kind enough to post it for others ?

Wander into the first driving school on the left in the police station road in Girne, at any civilised time of day, hand over your passports plus fee and stamps to the sisters and let them do it for you. They charge 60TL for one, 100TL for two and normally get it done same day or next day latest. They've been doing mine for years because I have a serious aversion to government offices!

Dusty,

To save you a wasted trip you can telephone Lefkosa to see if your residency has been processed.

The ladies name is Canan telephone 0392 611 1022 Have your passport number at the ready as she will ask for this.
