Choices, choices. Some of us already got a motley collection of mutleys, but like the teenies. They don't get among the waifs and strays.

Get a life and get a deserving stray from KAR. Or is your ego bigger than your brain? It's obscene to look for pedigree dogs when there are so many poor little souls desperate for a home. Perhaps some people think it looks smart/cool to have a pedigree dog. Bit like a designer shirt.

No need to be rude, is there? A pedigree is just as deserving of a life as any stray from KAR. There is no rule out here that says you have to adopt a stray. Maybe it would be a good idea to say all orphans should be adopted and you shouldn't have children of your own. So, again, I repeat there is no need to be rude - and osme of us just LOVE designer clothes, but don't have designer bank balances. Choices, choices, choices.

You entirely miss the point Maz. Never mind, go back to your ambitions for a designer lifestyle.

We love our pedigree dogs. Pedigree dogs do have design faults in any breed, but my vet tells me the life span of a Cyprus dogs is about 5-6 years. Most pedigrees live longer than that! It is personal choice as to what dog you have , why take on a stray if thats not what you want? Hamide, there is the big dog show of the Cyprus Kennel club this weekend in Nicosia, why not go south and have a look there.? You should get a chance to speak with the breeders and have a good look at their dogs. Directions and times are advertised on their website.

Bernies Reference your last comment. 'better a designer dog than a stray with behavior problems ?? ' I have 3 dogs, all came from KAR and they have not been a minutes problem since we got them. Two of them are cross breeds and one is a pure Dachs hound. We treat them the same, don't think the Dachs hound realises it is a designer dog! When in England we got a dog from the RSPCA, brought him to Cyprus and he was one of the family for 14 years. In other words a dog is a dog.

Many pedigrees are so highly bred and interbred that they do have both health and behaviour problems. We brought our Dalmation out with us, he was a Dalmation Rescue Society dog, we have also rescued two Cypriot dogs. They all get along brilliantly, the Dalmation is too dim to know he is pure bred anyway!! So as RoxyBob says a dog is a dog and all deserve happy homes and to be loved.

Whats wrong with wanting a pedigree dog as opposed to a mixed breed.Given the option most people would prefer a BMW or a Merc in lieu of an old banger that we see on the roads here.

Well said Ossie, its down to personal choice, my preference is the Merc! I do have to agree that lots of rescue dogs do have behaviour issues, where as if you get a dog from a puppy then you train it from day one to your life style and your rules. This is much easier than trying to re train a dog. I also believe that if you pay for a dog , it is less likely to be misstreated or dumped than a dog which you got for free. I'm not saying that everyone who gets or takes in a stray is a bad owner but when people pay a lot of money for a dog, they are less likely to misstreat it.

Blade, there are lots of puppies waiting to be adopted also.. I am a big fan of giving a home to a dog that is already in need and may lose its life if not adopted. The pedigrees have homes already, unless they were not intentionally bred. I don't think what Bernies said was bad.

In the UK many pedigree dogs go through rescue situation for what ever reason. It is especially bad right now because of lots of people loosing their home and having to go into rental. I wasn't in any way having a go at anyone who has taken on a rescue dog pedigree or not. But i do think it was unkind of people to have a pop at someone because they want a pedigree dog. We own three pedigree dogs and everyone of them has come from strange sort of circumstances. The first was advertised when the lady who bred the pups died suddenly. The second was rescued from being sold to a pet shop. The third was surplace to requirements of a breeder a friend of ours, who decided he wasn't show material. Not all pedigree dog owner are what people initially think. We do have a heart!
