Have done the trip 3 times but always in summer, as if the weather is bad the ferries are cancelled until the next day. You don't have to pre book your ticket just turn up at the docks and go to the booking office on the left then queue up.

Are you going into Europe after the crossing, if so your vehicle has to be EU registared and not TRNC, If TRNC you will be turned back at the Bulgarian border.

i have done it 3 times its the worst experience you will ever have to do once you get to port at Tasucu after the white knuckle cost road, they tell you checking starts at 7 i think it was when i went which was closer to the 10 when it really started you then have to run the gauntlet of getting all the paperwork sorted (if you have a car) i think its about 5 or 6 bits of paper work needed all from different offices with no signs as to what or where you need to go and in what order, i think the boat moved from the quay side about 1 or 2 and then sailed at about 3 it then sits off shore from about 5/6 until 9 or when ever customs opens at this end, during the journey its dry no alcohol and you have a the choice of tea, water etc and toast sandwich, at certain times during the journey the cafe closes so keep an eye on it if your going to need something all the seats are rock hard and not many recline even a bit this is based on my journey from turkey to here

Don't TRNC registered cars have to pay some kind of customs fee for the trip - something quite expensive, so I was told...

Its a holiday from TRNC to Tasucu so would I be able to buy a return ticket (that may save me having to do all this paperwork, as it would be done from this end anyway and the car is registered in the TRNC). Will take a cool bag full of booze and a cushion! useful info, thanks. What I will do now is go to the new harbour and ask exactly what Id need.

Took my car across there on the ferry at the end of september 1 year ago,as i originally brought my car in through limmasol and i wanted a TRNC yellow paper for the car,it was a very rough crossing,i must admit,i went down to look at the car many times on the crossing,my car was at the front of the ship,a HGV right behind it,car was well strapped down,so was the HGV behind me,came off the other side without a scratch, the return journey was just as rough, would i do it again, not with a car, takes to long.

Out of interest how long ago did you do this journey. You mention that the seats are uncomfortable. Ive been told you can sit in your car if you wish, so that would be nice to recline and sleep.

It takes about 5/6 hours i believe.

last august was my last trip, the cars were one ship and we were on the other and there was no way you could have stayed in your car there jammed on like sardines not an inch to spare on either ship as i say we boarded about 00:00 and docked at about 09:00 once customs are open don't forget that's coming from turkey with those times but am sure its the same amount of hours just different times and situation with packing the cars i would think be same

Can confirm with andrew4232, done the trip several times, I always have a dream the night before that this company has been bought out by P & O or Sealink. Still dreaming. If it was within the EU I am sure animals would not be allowed to travel on it. No sleeping in cars, as your car will be on a different boat. Sardines as well, you cannot breathe when all the engines start up prior to leaving the boat. Health and safety does not exist. Leaving from TRNC it's about 1.pm and dock in about 8.pm and emerge from red tape land at 9.30, later if a Turkish football game is on the TV. The boat does not travel in bad weather at all. Good luck!

Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy done it 3 times now 1986 first time second time 1995 third time 2006. Nightmare definitely would not do it again took between 8 - 14 hours every time. My advice dont do it. Why would you want to ? You can fly to Turkey in 40 minutes & Hire a car far more civilised.

I agree with message12, it was HELL!!! We travelled over from UK in September 2007, and all the journey except the ferry ride was enjoyable. Tasucu is a dump (my wife claims the worst toilets in the world!), the ferry had been cancelled due to high winds on the previous 2 days so to say the boat was busy was an understatement. 2 hours delay in setting off and the deck was completely covered in sprawling live and trying to get to sleep bodies emmiting all types of bodily noises. Soot descended all over us for the entire journey and to make matters worse it took over 3 hours to get out of Girne docks. Everything we have experienced in TRNC since has been like heaven. Don't Do It...................

ok not doing it. Booked a flight instead. It was just that having your own car you could bring whatever you wanted back, a suitcase is a bit different but hey!
