It is happening here now, but with a twist - you go to a bar you know, where you visit regularly. You have a few drinks, (ok, maybe more than a few !!) and when you go to pay your bill, suddenly you've won the beer-drinking world record. Now, don't get me wrong, I know that anyone who has a long night out is sometimes amazed by how much they have drunk, when the final bill arrives. All I will say is that my personal beer capacity has miraculously increased to 21 large beers. (Yes, twenty-one). No 'rounds' were bought, this was just my personal bar tab. If nothing else, I must be eligible for some sort of award. Or else, they were ripping me off................??

You are absolutely right, Paul. No tab, pay as you go for me from now on. It is just disappointing that I no longer trust people I thought I had made friends with, after nearly four years of living here.

And I know from sitting at the bar and casually observing other customers when it comes to 'hesap' time, lots of other people are apparently trying to beat my 'record'.

dont be mean, we all have trouble with spelling at times

the problem anywhere is if you are buying rounds and say maybe 5 in a crowd and youre running a tab, the guys behind the bar can charge whatever they like and can add on other peoples as well.. they have receipts to show the drinks were ordered if the police were to get involved but you dont have a leg to stand on

what i dont like when were paying as we go with rounds, sometimes the price changes but the drinks are the same, it happens pretty much everywhere and after so many drinks they seem to think they can take the p*

sorry but I have to giggled my little fat ass off here, do you guys honestly think that being ripped off at a bar that you can build a tab at is something new and only happens here.

treeman, the biggest part of the problem you face in my experience is that you are a regular who uses tabs, I have been done the same way myself and so have several of my friends and when you do get the answers to how it happened it is usually down to others claiming that you said you wiould pay for thier drinks and it gets added to the tab, in my case it was easy to claim because I often did by people drinks when they arrived at the bar and just added it to my tab. Soon stopped the tab thing lol.

Groucho, I thought a gigalos was several really, really big portaloos. You know the ones, even bigger than a megaloo

I think this can happen anywhere if you are daft enough to fall for it, having said that, we were taken by some friends (English) to an hotel where they 'prefered to drink' and our end of evening bill for drinks (we had all been in rounds) was a bit more than we expected.... however, the hotel has now closed (see, there is a God). Found out later they got discount for taking people in there... and yes, we do still speak to them....

We visit the Bogaz area mostly, quite a few bars, all run tabs, and never ever been taken for a ride there. Leaving last week we went to pay our bar tab, then asked for some bottled water before we paid, and the owner would not charge for the water.

We have never been 'taken' in the Bogaz area, that's why it is my favourite.
