As you all know the new school year is not far away and everyone is preparing for sending the little ones back.

Here in the TRNC parents have to pay for everything including books and pencils. One of the most expensive items is the school bag with prices ranging from 20YTL upwards. The SOS family project is trying to get new bags for all of the children in their care so we are talking about over 50 bags. If anyone on this board would like to help by donating a bag could you please let me know either on board or by email trncvillaownerssos@gmail.com

Many Thanks

Teresa

Thanks Wyn but i am afraid this is only for people here in the TRNC. The project do not as yet have their own bank details so if donations were made from UK they would go straight into the main SOS fund and not reach the community families.

Forgive me for asking. The school bags do they have the school logo printed on them? I know what you said to Wyn. If they haven't got the logo on and people who might be travelling soon from UK to TRNC were willing to take an empty bag in their luggage in the next couple of weeks I would be willing to buy a bag. Maybe I could go to a wholesalers in UK and buy? Last year in Turkey, bags suitable for school were about 5/8 YTL. I know if they have logo's on them the prices are high.

The bags do not need to have a logo on them so if anyone would like to buy and bring one from UK then that would be great. If you could let me know.

We do have some funds left from earlier fundraising and have someone going to Turkey so they will be buying some for us but not enough for all the children.

Thankyou for the offer.

Teresa which type of bag? The children in our village use the small suitcases on wheels. Is this the type of thing you are requesting or is it the single shoulder bag, brightly coloured with zip.

I have to go to an opticians today and theres a market nearby I will have a look there and see if they sell them. Just a thought if anyone was willing to take the small suitcases to NC they would have to use them as hand luggage as they, from memory would take up too much space in luggage. I will let you know later on Teresa what I have found out. This is such a good forum that I am sure someone will be able to come up with an idea of how to get the suitcases to North Cyprus in time for the opening of school.

Teresa I would like to donate the money for a bag. Please put an address whereby mail will reach you into my profile email address. It seems that you can buy the bags locally so it will just mean me going to the post office buying a stamp and sending the money onto you.

Teresa emails sent to your hotmail account are being returned, I have just tried again. I must point out to people on here who might have a hotmail account. A few weeks ago ALL my contacts were wiped from the account and everyone of them received two emails supposedly from me asking people to buy China on my recommendation. Most of my contacts know me really well and realised they were dodgy emails and deleted them but a few people were not watching what they were doing and opened them. I did report it to Microsoft and was also advised by a neighbour to change my password, which I did. Just beware, I thought because I had the latest Norton that I would be safe, not so.
